Gary (bus 209), who initiated and coordinated the collection for the family at both yards, (assisted by Tony D.),  presented Nick with a sizable envelope this afternoon. Nice to know that the Pioneer family expressed their sympathy in such generous and tangible way.

Work Related / Condolences to Nicky D.

The daughter of one of our drivers, Nicky - Bus 830, was struck and killed by a train in Manhattan today. The family's grief is, I'm sure, unspeakable. We can only hope our thoughts and prayers are some solace.

Funeral details when they become available.

I don't think it's just in other boros where drivers can't speak English fluently. I thought it was an OPT prerequisite.

Things will get better under Romney, but I don't think curbing illegal immigration will be included.

How can you teach a kid who can't speak a word of English? How can the teacher communicate with the parents?

One of our drivers who emigrated from Italy when he was in his early teens was telling once how it was mandatory that his father could speak English before being allowed here. His father also had to prove he had a job and could provide for his family without reliance on the government. How far we have strayed.

It was actually the Immigration Act of 1965 under Lyndon Johnson that started our immigration policy on a downward spiral ... lifting country-of-origin quotas that had been in effect since the 20's. The floodgates have been opened wider ever since.

Driver's fault for not speaking the kid's language ... whatever it is.  ;D

According to the DoE calendar, kindergarten has a full day tomorrow, Friday. Suggest you double check with your particular school, but mine confirmed that there's no half-day for K tomorrow.

Well, I left mine at Sharrott's in June and it was back at Arthur Kill when I picked ... still not inspected. Don't know about yours.

Yes, I understand.  I'm talking about the week ending on 9/9.  Do we get paid from Pioneer the full week 9/3 through 9/7?  if so, what do we do regarding unemployment on 9/9?
Yes, I know. "This" whole week is the week of 9/3 -9/9. We get paid for the whole week. You do not claim unemployment on Sunday 9/9.

You get paid for this whole week. DO NOT say you returned to work full time because at the time of claiming last week you will not have yet returned.

Yes, but I don't think there will be any objection to short sleeves AND TIE.

Then again, as ridiculous as inspectors have been lately, I can't guarantee that there won't be a "first time" someone gets a violation for short sleeves even though they're wearing a tie. Use your own judgement.

Yes, there was a problem with the site earlier, but it seems OK now.
