If you retire between March 1st & July 1 you get nothing.  The biggest joke is if you had retired before March 1st with 10 years you get a $50 increase.  If you retire After July 1st with 10 years you'd get around $20.  Why couldn't they just create a new pension increase equal to all. The retired members have a higher pension reward than active members.  No sense to it at all

Members who retired between March 1st and July 1st get nothing. Members who retired prior to March 1st get a larger increase than members who retire after July 1st.

Buzz please help me understand the logic of our executive board members.  I received a notice of pension increase in the mail today.  All retired (drivers) members got an increase of $50 in their pensions across the board.  Active members will receive less.  25 year members get $40 members those with less time get less based on percentages. If a member had retired last year with 10 years seniority he would have gotten a $50 increase compared to an active driver probably would get $20.
I find this all to be incredibly ridiculous, embarrassing and illogical.  I know we are not talking big bucks I'm just trying to understand our unions logic.  How can they justify this decision.  I'd be embarrassed

Then again it might be the air brake that activates the timer.

When I'm at a school in the PM I don't start my bus until the kids are loaded.  It takes more than 3 minutes, yes the stop sign is out.  The problem I have is that in the AM when I arrive at my schools this cold winter. I wait at times in excess of 3 minutes for the school aides to come out and receive the students.  It was my belief that I'm not to leave my seat with the keys in the ignition with students onboard. My point is that I will have to push the button in the rear of the bus to deactivate the alarm with students before I can restart the bus.
The only thing I can figure is to leave the bus in drive with the air brake activated.  This might not start the 3 minute timer.

60 sounds ridiculously high.  I know some drivers claimed religious exemption pending approval.

Keep in mind it is the governor who made the decision to close the schools not the mayor

I love a good challenge but I wouldn't want to be in Carmine's shoes or a student waiting on a street corner in the cold dark morning come January 3rd.  Eric Adams has 2 days to reverse this mandate.  It's a wait and see.

Wait and see we're next.  The next 30 days will tell.  After 30 days I would think we're safe from a mandate

Getting fuel will be a mess.  If you need DEF it's not available at the pumps, it's kept in the storage building where the special ED buses are parked.  If you need it the pump operator has to walk there-hand crank the DEF into a 14 gallon plastic container then wheel it to your bus on a cart on gravel. Then he has to hand crank the DEF into your bus.  Just imagine how long this process will take between fueling, checking fluids then this DEF debacle. They must wheel the 55 gal drum of DEF to the pumps. I know this might be a violation but something must be done.

The problem is that members have still yet to be notified officially.  I spoke to one member yesterday and he was unaware of this mandate. One can't expect everyone to be vaccinated or tested in time for the start of school.  Some members are on vacations or whatever personal matters that may be.  Some members won't be present for their pick either.  Sufficient notification still not  been given. I had a flu shot recently.  I was told that you have to have a 30 day break between the time of a flu shot and Covid vaccination.  You can't have both in close time.

They should give a grace period.  The notices haven't gone out to everyone.  Teachers had sufficient notice , not the busing industry.  Many bus drivers won't be able to drive on the first day ofschool because of this last minute decision. It would be a disaster lol
