I don't see it as a slap to Anthony if post 2013 drivers do not/can not attend the meeting. A passing thank you to Anthony and those in his office, as well as any delegate or board member that visits should be sufficient for a job well done. The majority of pre and post 2013 drivers will be satisfied with the outcome of these negotiations and of the effort of the union, owners and the City. In regards to a slap, did Anthony slap the post 2013 drivers with his involvement over the years?  Lets forget the "slapping" reference and be proud of the accomplishment.

QuoteIf he was trying that hard he would ask the owners and 1181 if someone from his administration or even himself could sit in on the negotiations.
Are you sure that is not happening?  A city mediator may be attending for advice to both sides.

Back in 2013 we were "convinced" by our shop steward / union that this was it and we should take it. It was terrible advice then, and we are paying for it now. All of our future compensation and benefits (retired members) will eventually have to be reduced because the shortage of members contributing over the last 10 years. In simpler terms, Pensions are in jeopardy!!!

As for the extra work, drivers will not stop doing it until the union tells us all not to do it. And some will still do it.

Buzz, if you have access to the list of schools receiving service before Sept 7, can you post it?

Claim today as you normally would. File a new claim tomorrow for a new year. Claim for new year starting next Sunday. You will not be paid next week due to waiting week.

QuoteAfraid of the unknown(the 219)  and Stockholm syndrome for the owners.....bad combination when every union is doing well with new contracts or straight cleaning up
Our union does not negotiate with the City, we are not City employees. We should not expect what the City employee unions are achieving.

When the "New" hires outnumber the "Legacy" members, maybe they should vote to dismantle the "Legacy" benefits above theirs, so we are ALL under one contract. Then maybe there will be bargaining power instead of questioning how to vote  on a strike vote. Dual contract selfishness will disappear.

"So, understand, it's not just for the "new" people ... hired since 2013 ... that we would authorize a strike. The legacy people are being offered shit as well and could conceivably even lose some of what we gained without the threat of a strike. "

So the "Legacy" members are now concerned about receiving what they forced on "New" hires?  Oh, OK!!

OK, we made some progress with the times to a more casual look. Next step should be dark blue embroidered polo shirts, then, optional shorts after June 1.

I agree, thanks Buzz for the info and opportunity this site provides. The lack of participation may be due to the disappointment with the Union, the Reps/Steward, selfishness of co-workers, and the management style we all experience on a daily basis. Just a thought.

All 2013 hires should vote to strike if they are not "caught up". They are the future of the union, and the pension. We need alot more of them to be hired so the extra work can stop and all of our financial futures is better guaranteed.

QuoteIt's gonna be tough to predict but cut throat as well. Also if drivers are getting steady OT why would they pick off is another thing to watch out for as well

I don't think "Cut Throat" is the proper reference for this scenario. If someone makes a choice to pick a different run that they deem beneficial to them, it's not "Cut Throat" it's an opportunity.

QuoteMy father who was involved in the strike told me nobody ever wins in a strike. At the end of the day people hired after 2013 want what they deserve. If it comes to a strike which would suck then so be it. This is our moment to get what is ours and be treated as equals by being under 1 contract. As stated people are all talk but I think this time around people are I'll walk the walk because if we don't get what we deserve people will leave pioneer and go drive for a different profession making way more money than they are now with less headaches and responsibilities. This is our moment to get what we want need and DESERVE which is guaranteed weeks for all, all
Holidays and top pay cut in half. You guys were us at one point so you have to see where we are coming from. You guys got what you wanted now it's time for us to get what we want from people hired 2013 on
This "Kid" seems to be uninformed. Using terms as "what is ours and what we deserve" is incorrect. We have now what our union told us to accept. The union was willing to accept all the givebacks and persuaded the membership to do so. So from then on, it is not what you deserve or is yours. You accepted this job at the terms of your hire. Most jobs have tiered employees with different pay scales and benefit packages based on longevity. Our union lost it, hopefully in the future some things can be restored. Regarding a strike, nothing positive came out of the last one!

Buzz, I agree with you that all of this information was, and still is, available to any interested potential new hire. I believe a lot of the new hires are from folded bus companies, or from Amazon. These hires needed a job and may not have looked too deep into what they were signing on for. Unfortunately, this job is not a career. It is a retirement job for those that are already retired from something else. The last two contracts which we were persuaded to approve by our union officials has made us take many many steps backwards. This not only affects the newer hires, but will affect all of us in the long term.  :bomb:
