Hate to be the bearer of bad news but everyone's going to see it either today or tomorrow anyway. Looks like we MIGHT have bigger problems than worrying about plexiglass. Go online today's New York Post speaking about busing children to school. I would copy the link and put it here but I don't know how to. Maybe Buzz can do it.

As alarming as that reads the Post has been a rag paper for a very long time. As of now I for one will not put much credit into that article. I might believe that Mayor Dumblasio is actually floating the idea but I will wait and see how he intends to get it done. I would sooner believe there will not be a return to the classroom at all in September before they actually scrap school busing for general Ed students especially children in grammar and middle schools. But for now Dumblasio is keeping everyone guessing for sure.

its very scary times...we also have to stop with the demands that are not possible...we need gloves and mask and to get back to work...

I agree with Yabba. Being safe is one thing. Asking for the world is another. But then again I've never negotiated anything besides trying with my wife which I always lose. You never know you ask for 70 things and maybe you'll get 20 of them.

i also agree with the NY Post and Daily News being rag paper, but lets not forget they ran articles back in april about the buses being parked and the millions being wasted, and we were told not to pay attention to the rag paper and a few weeks later we had no more pay check or benefits....

Always some
Schmuck in the city putting their nose where it doesn't belong...."how will the buses be sterilized" what an idiot question... They do this they will cripple the school system even more

sbdriver1

If that happens, it means a system pick with union seniority.

Master pick.

Master Pick?
Is that you talking or is that the Union saying that?
And if it is the Union saying that then what happens to the non-union school bus companies that have contracts with the DOE? Such as Vinnys. How do you decide who gets placed between Union and nonunion companies?

Hammer2161

I don't believe it will be a master pick. There are to many variables and to many different companies involved. Multiple different union shops and plenty of non union shops. As far as the city will be concerned they just want the work done they are not going to care about a master pick. The work will go to the companies as it always does and the companies will have to deal with it. Also once again we are putting the the horse before the cart as nothing has even been brought to the union let alone to us. But I guess it gives us something to do while we wait for it to all play out.

WigWag16

Soooo it's ok to crowd kids in a class room or minimize it to 9-12 kids BUT can't put 9-12 kids on a bus? The logic makes 0 sense. Again IF it is they will just cripple the school system more. And what an idiot thing to ask and say that the buses wont be safe or how will they be clean. Also saying the drivers will mess up and not drive safe. We were driving in this when the virus broke out, buses were sterilized and we were safe. how you sending a five year old on a city bus/train

I asked Ernie and he says he believes there would be a master pick. He's going to check on on that and whether non-union companies are included and if so, how they are dovetailed in seniority.

Soooo should we be worried lol. We haven't heard any positive news driving wise from the union or in the news. I think things will pick up the first week to August when Cuomo makes that decision but then again nothing positive has been said about bus drivers on both ends

According to this article,  "The recent city budget includes full funding for busing starting in the fall."
