The Wage Adjustment checks will be available tomorrow, the 15th. They will be CHECKS, not direct deposit.

People working next week will receive ONE day's pay for each day worked. That will be paid the week we come back in a check separate from our regular paycheck.

If you are not working you should claim unemployment on Easter Sunday ... however, if you have to open a new book do it on Monday, the 18th (or certainly before Good Friday).

On the topic of the wage adjustment, there has been some discussion as to whether guys who have retired during the past months are entitled to the Easter Adjustment. The answer is "No." It is not an "accrual" as is the payment we get in June. They do get a pro-rated portion of the summer accrual.

They do not get the Easter Wage Adjustment because it is not an accrual. It is intended to compensate for the "limited work year" as stated in the contract. If someone has retired, they are no longer subject to a "limited work year" ... they no longer work.

Also, the contract states that it is to be paid "in addition to regular wages." If someone is no longer working here, there are no "regular wages" and there is nothing to be added.

1181 Matters / Who's on First?
April 01, 2011, 03:36:28 AM
I've heard, but have not confirmed, that Salerno's slate is falling apart with several former running mates withdrawing ... not the least of which are [supposedly] Nero and John E. Care to tell us what the story is, John?

And the [other?] Members for Change slate has yet to be announced. Seems there's a lot of in-fighting as to who is going to run for what position.

Neither of these groups can hold a slate together. They're going to hold our local together?

In case you don't know, running on the Cordiello Slate are:
Michael Cordiello - President/Business Agent
Jean Claude Calixte - Financial Secretary
Eddie Gigliotti - Vice President
Tommy Jemmott - Recording Secretary

Delegates:
Jimmy Hedge
Walter Oakman
Angelo Sorrentino
George Martinos
Vincent Catalano
Tomas Fret Jr.
Renee Jean-Louis
Vinny Buttaro
Joe Casalino

I don't usually find the NY Times good for much, but these interactive overlay photos of Japan "before and after" are terrific. Move the line in the middle from right to left to see the effect.

Work Related / 46 violations = only 2 hearings
March 15, 2011, 02:17:11 PM

In a previous post I said ...

Quote from: Buzz on March 02, 2011, 03:19:50 AMIn all the years we went without a bus was I don't think they've ever gotten a violation for dirty exteriors. Let's hope there are none for anybody.

As of the recent yard inspections, I stand corrected. Violations were issued for dirty exteriors ... drivers will not be held accountable.

In fact, the total number of violations for both the odd and even inspection combined was 46. Of that only 2 will result in hearings for the drivers. I would say management is exhibiting a phenomenal amount of cooperation with our union reps and discretion as to which violations drivers will be answerable. (Even though, I might add, many of these violations were unfair for even the company to get.)

Kudos to all involved for bringing about this level of fairness ... at least to drivers ... to these out-of-control OPT violations. We do notice, and we do appreciate it.

Work Related / Lucky Winner!

Congratulations to the driver who won a trip to St. Lucia on a CBS-FM call-in contest yesterday!

Unfortunately, there is no consolation prize for the other driver who called in about the same time but was not the  lucky 11th caller.

(Coincidentally, both drivers have the same first name and share the initials G.S. At least the one who didn't win the trip won a raffle prize a few months ago ... a Lionel Santa Fe Train Set ... but you can't get to St. Lucia by train, especially if you only have the tracks.  :rotfl: )
