No wigwag16, that's not how it works! Everything is by seniority. If a driver is working who is Junior to me and he's getting a full day's pay, then I get a full day's pay as well. It doesn't go by run it goes by seniority. If number 216 is working, what about number 10?That's always been the case and will continue to be the case.

False, how come you work when everyone else is off? With jew and catholics? You dont get bumped from your run. Your seniority is only for the pick nothing else. As far as extra work thats supposed to be by seniority but its impossible

WigWag16

So much for having our runs by Tuesday the latest if not sooner....

Hammer2161

Are we really going to have this argument ? I think it will totally depend on if all runs come back. If every run comes back that we had last March then I could possibly see a scenario where you go back as your school opens. But if we don't get all runs back it will most definitely be done by seniority. I am sorry but I can't see a scenario where senior workers would be left on unemployment while junior drivers work.

First and foremost let's get to a point where the first day of school is imminent, right now based on everything that I am reading there is still plenty that needs to be done. NY state as a whole is not fairing that well on contact tracing how will it be much different for the BOE. A registered nurse in every school during a fiscal crisis ? Parents agreeing to random COVID testing. Heck the teachers have to agree to it as well.

Hopefully they didn't set it up to fail. But there is most definitely A LOT TO STILL GET ACCOMPLISHED!!!!

WigWag16

We all know the virus rate is definitely gonna go back up once it gets cold out. So then that would mean you're out of work again?
Watch and see how the union says the classrooms and buildings aren't ready or don't meet the checklist by the 21st.
That's why they put that in there. That covers them so that if they want to delay even longer, they can. It's not a hard and fast rule that says no matter what, schools open the 21st. That's what I thought it was. It's a targeted date instead.
Basically, they can or cannot open on that date, depending on the situation.
So let's say that the schools you pick up for/that are on your run are shut down bc they don't meet the checklist or bc of the virus, do you still get paid?

Hammer2161

Wigwag16 your asking a question I doubt anyone can answer. The best answer I could give you is that if you return to work and actually do work and somewhere along the line they close your school for quarantine then you should get paid. If you come in to contact with those children you may also be required to be tested and quarantine yourself.

These are for sure unprecedented times and we are going to have to let them play out.

But in the end we belong to a union and seniority has to prevail !!!!

My take from reading the UFT fact sheet is they do not want schools to reopen and if they do reopen their 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙣 is to close them back down within weeks. But I'm sure the heads of the UFT have no problem with Malls, Gyms, Restaurants, etc., opening. As much as I want & need to get back to work I'm getting to the point where I say F it and let's just wait until September 2021. No school and no remote teaching (bc the children aren't learning anything anyway). Put the teachers on the unemployment line and we'll see how fast they tell their Reps it's safe and we want to go back to work.

Hammer2161

I know we are all frustrated and rightfully so. But as we have found out in the past few days the rank and file of the UFT unfortunately doesn't get to vote on wether or not they strike or further delay the opening of schools.

I will say this if the schools are not safe then they are not safe for anyone. Not sure what they are going to get accomplished in 10 with the teachers and faculty in the buildings.

And as I stated earlier what happens if there's no bail out and due to the fiscal crisis the city has to cut 22000 jobs 9000 of which are slated to come from the BOE. Is this extension somehow tied to that inevitable decision.

One hundred percent TRANSPARENCY would be nice !!!!

I'm not so sure about that. Some years ago I went back to work a full week earlier than many drivers with more seniority while they remained on unemployment because that's when my school opened.

We see it every September ... though the difference is usually only a day or two.

Don't know that it would be an different now, especially since there's no pick.
I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

Guys,

1) OPT has still not indicated whether non-public schools would get buses before public schools open

2) There will be no pick

So, I would say if number 1 was to happen, refer to number 2.

I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

Well then if that is true the drivers who do catholic schools need to be prepared because I believe as of now catholic schools are going back on September 16th. So if there is no pick and seniority does not prevail it looks like they will be working a few days earlier then everyone else.

lets see how many kids are left to go into the classroom after the parents sign for random swabbing for covid... i know a few that changed to full remote yesterday already... i dont agree with the UFT but i will give them credit they played this well and won..

Hammer2161

This whole agreement is set up to fail. Dumblasio and the BOE couldn't get what was needed done within the 5 months since schools shut. Now we are all to believe the BOE and the UFT agreed on a list of 50 let me repeat 50 items and they are going to get all that done in 10 days.

The one truth not being discussed is the fiscal crisis. Where is this money going to come from. I read somewhere that Dumblasio said money from the schools PTA funds could be used to buy the PPE supplies needed. I thought he promised he would get that done. And what will the schools do that are in poorer neighborhoods if they don't have the funds to do that. Oh and let's not forget the outdoor plan that he also wants the PTA's to fund.

Surely it's set UP TO FAIL !!!!
