Title: First learn English, then run for office
Post by: Buzz on May 31, 2011, 03:05:12 PM
You would think someone who went through the expense of having a glossy flier printed announcing her candidacy for the delegate #5 position would at least have had someone with a command of the language proofread it. Correct spelling, grammar, word usage and punctuation are sorely lacking. How would anyone send out an abomination of the language like that?

Also, if you want to put the flag of your country, (which apparently is not this one) on your flier, I don't really have a problem with it. But proper U.S. flag etiquette dictates that the American flag should be displayed higher than that of other countries.

Hope she picks a good run and driver in the fall!  :rotfl:

Bravo!  However, not in her defense mind you, but most of the fliers had "errors" (even Mighty Mike's).  The flag display was a slap in the face. @#$%

Well, that's because they didn't have ME proof read them!  ;D

There might have been some minor errors, but you had no problem understanding what they were saying. Whereas this girl's was an assault on the English language!

("Mighty Mike"  ... hey, I like that!)

Well now, I might be taking a risk here and incur your wrath.  I thought you were their PR guy. Wouldn't be a bad thing.  I had no problem understanding the bios and that's the problem, I understand their bios (as far as #5 candidate, she's a non-entity and was even thrown under the bus by her own people).  Seems like Mighy Mike has mostly "appointed" candidates, Salerno is a reject,   MFC has become laughable and , Get Involved hasn't even made it to the starting gate!  I'm just saying.  There's a lot of discontent in 1181 :lipsrsealed:  Hope this shows up where it's supposed to.  I don't have the formatting down pat yet but I'm happy that you removed the virus from my pc  ;D

How do you figure? They can be appointed once, but any that were are there now because they got a majority of the votes in the last election. If anything, they were appointed by the membership ... including Michael.

PR guy? Not really. I support them ... fully. That's all.

And, by the way, of those who were originally appointed, it was done so by the trustees Mullins & Baker (as field reps) ... Hedge, Martinos, Sorrentino, Catalano, Jene-Louis and Oakman. But, again, they were all subsequently elected by a majority of the members.

It should be noted ... each of these people had been shop stewards for a number of years prior to being appointed reps and elected delegates ... so there's plenty of proven experience on this slate.

I seem to remember that Candidate #12 ran against Mighty Mike and he was a shop steward for Atlantic Express.  I hope he knows the contract better now than he did then.  Hey, did you get a chance to read the flyer of Josue Pierre?  Very impressive presentation, content questionable.  Wonder what property he comes out of.  Wish there were debates. Now THAT would be a classic.  Just a couple of more days and it's history.  Maybe in a couple of more days this damn pc will do what I want it to do.

I wish more AMERICANS would stand up and defend the English language before it's to late.
All those who remain silent will someday speak idioteze.

I'm with you all the way but it would be easier to defend if it was the official language.  Gotta get after the politicians.

Well, if Vinny doesn't, he will soon ... LOL. Didn't see a flyer of Josue Pierre and didn't see his name on any slate. Running independently?

Well, 2 NYC councilmen are doing their part ... sponsoring a bill to require some English on signs written in foreign languages.

Look at this cluster of stores. I can't even tell if the bus stop signs are in English!
They cram stores in retail space tighter than they do people in apartments!

I read this today in the Daily News.  Seems like our politicos refuse to even enforce the laws already passed and do everything to repeal them thanks to AG Schneiderman.  Go figure.

I don't see how it's either illegal or discriminatory. Need to vote Schneiderman out ... provided the ballots are in English.  :))
