Really Buzz ? Getting an additional 4 or 8 hours for a day you already get paid for is a Pet Peeve of yours ? At least your still  getting paid for the day, it might not be a double day, but your still getting paid.  Listen, this is my Pet Peeve. The Paid Sick Leave Act is an actual written law. Giving all city workers some sort of paid sick days off. ITS A LAW ! WE QUALIFY, WE ARE ENTITLED ! WE MEET ALL THE REQUIREMENTS !  I cant believe the Union wouldn't want to take advantage of this after all the greedy contractors put us through and have taken from us and are still taking.  We finally have a chance.  We have been and are still getting our asses handed to us by OPT, The BOE, Inspectors, Management (OWEN), etc. Listen, its even gotten to the point where we don't even have a pick. And if we do, what's the difference. The Board adds schools and stops to senior drivers and the Union does nothing. Where is the support, where is the representation . . . . no where.  Our Union Guys get sick days and personal days and are making 3 figures. I'm tired of hearing the Union saying, "we're working on it", meaning the cost of violations, excessive discipline from management, etc. years later its still 200.00 for an average violation. They're working on it. So with Sick Leave Act many of us thought we would final get a little something our way. and from what I'm hearing the Union is bargaining that away. And its an actual written law.  Sorry, just venting. Once again this is my Pet Peeve.

. . . . all Ernie said about Wednesday's meeting is that we're moving forward. That's it.

I'm sorry, but we are "Entitled" to sick leave because we meet and exceed all of the requirements. We exceed the minimum amount of hours worked, we meet and exceed the number of employees, etc. That makes us eligible & entitled. Our delegates get paid personal & sick leave. It's just a shame that in todays society, when your on a job that is so over regulated with so many restrictions and requirements that you cant even get a few sick days or personal days off.  Our boss wants to take and take, this should be thrown in his face.  Like you said, we got him right where we want him, and I hope Mike did his home work

So, yes we are entitled to sick days.  The only way we don't get them is if they are bargained away, and there is only one party that can do that. So by not giving us what we are entitled to, they're costing us more money with unpaid time off.

14. Are employees covered by collective bargaining agreements covered by the law?
The law does not apply to employees covered by a valid collective bargaining agreement that was in effect on April 1, 2014 until that collective bargaining agreement terminates. If a collective bargaining agreement includes an "evergreen clause" providing that the agreement will remain in effect following its expiration date unless one side terminates the agreement, then the law will not apply until that option is exercised. Otherwise, the law will take effect for such employees on the date of the termination of their collective bargaining agreement, and employees will begin to accrue sick leave under the law beginning on that date.

For employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement that came into effect after April 1, 2014, the law does not apply if the collective bargaining agreement expressly waives the law's provisions and the agreement provides a comparable benefit to employees, such as paid time off. Otherwise, the law applies to these employees.

Exception: For employees in the construction or grocery industry covered by a collective bargaining agreement that came into effect after April 1, 2014, the law does not apply if the collective bargaining agreement expressly waives the law's provisions. The agreement does not have to provide a comparable benefit to these employees.

Four words that should be thrown in during the negotiations. "Paid Sick Leave Law".

But John, the original purpose of contributing the $24.00 weekly was to pay for the retirees medical, not the employed.  And the retirees plan has gotten worse over time.

The single biggest reason our medical is in deep shit is because of the opt-out's.  It never should have been an option.  And why is it an option, so the contractors can profit even more and still cry poverty ? give me a break. One of the unions biggest mistakes they let happen.

People, lets wake up. They dropped the ball from the beginning. All that is being done now is a struggle for survival. The boys on Woodhaven Blvd will always have their fat pay checks even if they have to organize the Uber cabs to keep their 150,000 or 250,000 dollar pay checks while we lose everything. With the latest development, now I'm getting scared. For a while I was confident things would come our way, but that's lost now. Things keep getting better for the boys on Woodhaven Blvd, while we're told, "your gonna lose money and maybe benefits but be happy you have a job". If that's even close to being true, 1181 your dead to me. Nobody wants another strike including me, but if it means giving up more of what we earned or worked for than so be it. Lets go down fighting. I'd rather fight with my head high than bow down with my head between my legs like a coward. Listen 1181, if you're reading this if I don't get my stuff back or if I'm gonna lose more youre done to me, don't ask me to make a meeting because you need my support because its not gonna happen. YOUR DONE !

Just from past experience, no news is usually not good news.  These guys usually resort immediately to bragging rights, but I hope I'm wrong. I can sure use some good news for once.  it's been a few years since we had some.

I will not settle for anything but all my money back . . . . PERIOD !   he can haggle a BIT with the overtime or double days, fine. But I want all my accrual and holidays back. I'm hearing our union reps say things like, "Baby steps". Or. "we need to crawl before we can walk". . . . . BULLSHIT ! Our money didn't crawl away from us using baby steps, it was cut right out from us and we were told to vote this way. I know I said this before, if I don't get my money back the entire slate can go to hell. If Bugs Bunny runs for Union President he's got my vote.

Don't really know what there is to negotiate. If we don't get back what we gave up "in good faith", to assist our boss become more competitive with bidding (though bidding never happened) We don't roll.  And if the Mayors office questions us for striking even after he worked to get us an extension, our answer should be, "Mr. Mayor, my people gave up thousands of dollars of their salary "in good faith" to the Greedy Owners so they could be more competitive during the bidding to keep their jobs" .  And the Mayor would probably say, "but Michael I gave them an extension, they lost no money". And Michael should say, "but Mr. Mayor, now the pricks don't want to give it back and my back is up against the wall, my people deserve to get their money back.  Then quite possibly the Mayors office would hold  payment to the greedy owners or pressure them "TO GIVE IT BACK".

you know what's hilarious ? Owen (A.K.A. Jerkoff) had her in his Cross Hairs for the longest. Ever since her tire broke off and she went off the side of the road. He wanted to fire her, he really went out of his way to try to cut her head off. Such a sick bastard.
