Sad to announce the passing of retired Police Officer Louis Gallo.

On April 21, 1980, Police Officer Louis Gallo and his partner heard a radio transmission of a Police pursuit of four bank robbers. The officers set up a roadblock, and as the perps approached, they opened fire at the officers. The two officers returned fire, wounding one of the gunmen, who then fled on foot. During the foot pursuit, the perps engaged in a gun battle with Gallo's partner. Eventually three of the four perps were apprehended.

1981 Medal Day Police Officer Louis Gallo was awarded the Combat Cross for his heroic actions.

Louis Gallo, Rest in peace.

This is the second highest award in the nypd
