Well if this is actually true we may not be out of work as long as it appeared.

Sooooo I would assume December 7th everyone goes back to their runs then.....

Whoever doesn't work this week collect unemployment next Sunday and everyone reports back to
Work the 7th would be the logical explanation since public schools are
Reopening

Exactly lol.... Pre k and PS go back..middle school and jhs gotta wait. They are looking to phase out hybrid so if you choose not to send your kid they 100 percent remote learn if they go to
School they go five days a week.
There's no reason for us not to get our runs back next Monday BUT gotta see how the company, I mean"union" handles it

Not so sure about that. There are some runs ... I don't think many ... that have only junior highs so there will still be some shuffling of drivers I'd assume.

And then there are some that have only non-public. If they're closed it will add to the problem of who works.

Buzz,Not sure what you're saying. The current work that was offered was Private, Catholic and Jewish schools. If they are now going to open K-4 K-5 and grades 1-5 and District 75 and you have a Junior High School,District 75 you should be eligible to work if you didn't make yourself eligible for the private schools, correct?

From what I understand if you did not volunteer to work starting Nov 30th you will be furloughed until all schools open back up and everyone returns to work. It is my understanding that as schools open back up they will continue down the list with drivers that volunteered to work first before forcing or offering work to anyone who said no.

Actually, I opted out of doing anyone else's work but my own. If someone has a school that opens up on the seventh they should be able to do it. The union and the company didn't make sense. The union told us once your hand at a run you have to take it, while the letter we got from the office said we were able to turn it down and go on unemployment. They were working against each other

Listen I didn't put that out there to piss anyone off but the precedent has been set. I would rather they call everyone back to work as early as tomorrow but we all know that's not happening.

this was never said to us..  they need to make a new plan for the 7th,and explain it fully to everyone..and we need to here it from one person... no more mis information..... 1181 need to make it clear in a letter and buzz can post it...
Title: Re: Schools to start reopening on December 7th

Well, it's a little too late now. I know for a fact many were told once your name is on the list you can't turn down any run they give you you must take it. Then all of a sudden the letter comes out from the office saying you can turn down the run if you don't like it, i.e. you get a late Jewish school. Having a late Jewish school may not work out certain drivers, that's why they didn't put their name on the list to cover other peoples work. So if a drivers runBecomes active again they should be able to take it.

Listen I agree with you guys I missed working tomorrow by less than 10 names and my run is actually going out. But seniority didn't put me in the mix so far. All I am saying is if everyone is not going back to work at the same time they will continue to offer work based on seniority and wether or not you said yes initially. I doubt they are going to change their plan on a week to week basis.

I think you're right. If a guy didn't want to do somebody else's run this week I doubt very much he'll be given another bite of the apple. But if a driver's own run is working, I'm pretty sure he'll be the one doing it ... as long as there's nobody above him not working. Seems fair to me.

As long as there is no one above him who is not working (and wants to) he will do his own run.

Just as Hammer posted ... his run is going this week, but somebody with more seniority will be doing it. I don't think it will be any different going forward.

If you have a school that opens on the 7th you will be able to do it unless a senior man who opted to work is without work.

Actually, the letter from the office did not say you could go on unemployment. It said you would be "furloughed." That does not necessarily mean you'll be eligible for unemployment.

In one sense it's not fair that you have to commit to doing a run you never even saw, but look at the practicality of it. They just put out a list of drivers who are to report to work ... voluntarily. If 10 guys look at their runs and say they don't want to do them, who's going to cover the runs? There will probably be a few people shaping but there has to be some deterrent to refusing to work at the last minute.

So Buzz are you saying that if you didn't put your name on the list to work and your public school opens on the 7th or the 10th you can return to work to do your own run unless someone with more seniority who is on the list wants to cover that run.
Title: Re: Schools to start reopening on December 7th
Post by: Hammer2161 on November 30, 2020, 12:21:39 AM
Actually LMR I think they will have to exhaust the list of people who said yes initially before they can offer a run to anyone.

I would assume so. Look, Hammer's run is working this week. Somebody with more seniority is doing it. Why would it be any different the following week? It's the same scenario, just involves more schools.

What wasn't said? Not sure what you're referring to,.

Public schools will all be on the same schedule for testing whereas non-public will do it whenever they're going to do it so there might be some that can open and some what can't.

Listen Guys as shitty as it seems the precedent is already set and if all runs are not working next week I would think the runs would go to the people who VOLUNTEERED TO WORK regardless of wether or not their respective run was going out or not.
With that said if they need to pull drivers in to work because that list gets exhausted and you get to work you will then have the right to work your run if it is going out.

Yabba,
No one is saying you won't get your run back. All we are saying is the Volunteer list will be exhausted before they will bring anyone else back to work. But once you are brought back to work wether it's before all runs are reinstated or when they are reinstated you will most definitely get your run back.

The so called list was for wether or not your wanted to work or not period. It was not specifically for catholic or private schools. We all interpreted it that way because those were the only schools open this coming week.
I totally understand where everyone is coming from but why is it ok for senior drivers who only do public schools to take my catholic school run this week leaving me furloughed but it's not ok for me to take someone's run next week if we are not all back to work.

That's not entirely true Hammer, The list was for people who wanted to cover the Catholic and Jewish schools, that's it nothing more. Because those were the only schools still up and running, why else would there be a list. All the New York City public schools were closing and the Catholic and Jewish schools were the only ones operating, it wasn't a list for people who simply want to Change runs. When your schools reopen you go back to work.

Well I will just say this I volunteered to cover any run that was available regardless of wether it was Catholic Private or Public. And I for sure will have something to say should my school be closed next week and Public schools be open.
Pioneer and 1181 can not pick and choose how or when they will institute the use of seniority as a means to who works and who doesn't when all schools are not working.

FACEIT,
I am very aware of exactly what happened. Not sure if you have been reading the entire thread but we are discussing who will be working next week should the public school system start to open in stages. Some are under the assumption that once their school opens back up they will automatically go back to work regardless of seniority. I doubt it will happen that way.

possibly has to do with 20% testing a week now,old rule was 20% a month.. but who knows how they figure... just think of this with 20% monthly individual schools were closing so much,so now if you closing 4 times more frequently ,i dont think we have enough window space to display the closings..

I was thinking the exact same thing. On the day before he closed the schools, I believe there were 27 schools closed on Staten Island. That number is sure to rise proportionately to testing. Makes you wonder if it's really worth re-opening at this time.

Wake me up when junior men who pay dues are given a shit about again 🤣🤣🤣🤣

And how would you suggest that should happen? Should they be able to work before senior drivers? (Who have been paying dues for many, many more years, by the way. And if you're not working, you're not paying dues.) What's your solution?

My solution would have been to scrap this idea once he said schools were opening up next week and have people do their runs this week, and pay people 85 percent for not going out and next week people do their runs as usual but that's just me speaking.

WTF247,
Paying everyone 85 percent would work in theory if the BOE was paying Pioneer for the runs even if they didn't go out. To the best of my knowledge Pioneer only gets paid for the runs that actually work on any given day except for holidays and scheduled school closures.
Listen I understand the frustration and for some the desperation but if everyone is not working both Pioneer and 1181 must assign work based on seniority. Seniority is the very basis of what a union is built on. If you forego seniority then you are undermining the very principles of what a union is. Working for a union shop is not for everyone and maybe some people should have thought about that before they took this job.
I truly wish we were all working but unfortunately that isn't the case. Hell I got within 10 names of working today but even though my run is going out I am home with everyone else. I have to respect that it's being done the right way and unfortunately so does everyone else. Hopefully this nightmare ends soon.

Dude, how's this for mattering again: The company didn't have to pay you dick for last Friday, and for some, not even Thanksgiving. But the union ... the one you say doesn't give a shit about you ... worked that deal out.

And, by the way, contractors do not get paid a dime for those two days.

I think you'd be a lot happier here if you put your sense of entitlement in check.

I'd rather be working my run than get a day after thanksgiving(I was getting thanksgiving regardless) but that's just me....I'll just sit back and observe from now on because a junior drivers opinion I guess don't mean anything

I doubt it. With some seniority drivers only having JHS runs and not working who's to say they won't continue doing this list stuff till they open EVERY SINGLE schools

Example, I have a PS school in the AM, I'm sure they will give that to the next person on the list who doesn't work at all. So I lost my Jewish school in the PM already and lose my PS in the AM and PM as well if they continue to do it this way.

After what I saw this week, I wouldn't put it past the "union" to give my PS schools to a senior man with only JHS schools not working because you know "senior men gotta work" or the driver that has my Jewish school will get my PS schools next week and just do my entire run. Or if the driver that took
My Jewish school goes back to her run that has a PS school and they give my PS schools and Jewish school to the next driver up and not me.

WTF247,
Your run will stay intact whether you do it or someone else does it will not be broken up. They can not break up runs plain and simple.
Listen I don't believe there are many if any runs that just have junior high schools on it. As far as high schools go they only get special needs service and again I do not believe we have to many of those runs and if they fall under the DISTRICT 75 Banner they will be open by the 10th. I would think most if not all drivers should be back at work sometime next week. Unfortunately it's a waiting game where we are not given very much information. But that could simply be because there is not much information to give right now. I would venture that there are a lot of people feeling that financial crunch right now. But we need to be patient.

WE BELONG TO A UNION AND ESPECIALLY NOW WE NEED TO HAVE FAITH IN WHAT OUR UNION IS DOING FOR US !!!!

Oh I didn't mean they would break up the run, meaning I wouldn't physically drive until every school opens up and they would give my entire run to someone who isn't working due to them going by seniority number and having only JHS on their run. Like if PS schools open up on the 7th then I
Should get my entire run back and work next week Unless the driver currently doing my run only has JHS and will continue doing my Run until JHS opens up. Or the current driver goes back to their run and I still don't work because there's a driver not working due to JHS closed therefore I still wouldn't drive cause that person would then take over the current person doing my run.

There are times that I don't agree with things that our Union Reps do but the majority of those times it's things that out of out of their control just like in this case. Obviously it's unfortunate when any Union Member doesn't work but in this case like I said it's out of their control, they do not have control of how many runs there are. And if there aren't enough runs for all the Union Members to work not just at Pioneer but throughout our Local then obviously the Senior Members get the work. Fortunately enough it appears that it's only going to be for this week so let's stop the bullshit and try to be Union Brothers & Sisters and talk and treat each other as such. Remember we all took an Oath to be in this Union!!!!

Louise at St. Pats said she was going to call Bobby today. I expect Bobby would list it open, but with all the changes going on, who knows if it gets lost in the shuffle. Just giving everybody who does St. Pats. a heads up for Monday. St. Pats is planning on opening Monday.

Have a good weekend all.
