Being able to drive isn't enough any more. Anybody trying to get a CDL nowadays has a bunch of new things to know ... especially for the pre-trip. Checking hoses and belts, etc. And to check steering wheel play, "With the engine running, check for excessive play by turning the steering wheel back and forth. Play should not exceed 10 degrees (or about two inches on a 20-inch wheel) before front left wheel barely moves."

OK ... if you're sitting in the bus moving the steering wheel, how are you going to see if the left tire barely moves? ? ?

Take a look at some of these insane things ... https://dmv.ny.gov/brochure/cdl10sec11-13.pdf

If you want to see the whole manual, the links are on this DMV page ... https://dmv.ny.gov/commercial-drivers/new-york-state-commercial-drivers-manual
I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.
