Title: Emergency EB meeting tomorrow regarding PAY
Post by: Buzz on March 15, 2020, 11:15:25 PM

There will be an emergency Executive Board meeting for the purpose of determining how (and if ) we will get paid. Nothing certain yet. I'll keep you posted.

Should pay us.  Contract pays 39 weeks?? Pioneer gets paid for the runs so we should get paid.

Just got this from our delegate: 85% pay to April 20th for all employees  with the exception of Easter week for new hires.

I also raised this issue with Ernie: Will those of us who get Easter week get full pay for that week? (Instead of the 85%.) He's going to try to get an answer to that at tomorrow's meeting.

Medical good through the end of the month. Ernie will find about beyond that tomorrow.

The assumption is that being we're getting paid, albeit at 85%, that benefits will be deducted and we'll be covered, but we can never assume anything!

It's f****** bullshit. 85 % is for a snow day. 39 WEEK GUARANTEE

What if they end up closing for the rest of the school year? Were all still employed should get our pay plus our benefits...

The union is aware they could have insisted on full pay.

They are also aware that the response could have been, "You know what? I'm shutting down. Let everybody go on unemployment."

The union would take him to court ... and win. In the meanwhile, we would have no benefits, and  who knows how long it would take to get our money? (Remember after the strike?)

I can't tell anybody else what to think, but I'm grateful for having benefits and getting 85% for staying home.

Buzz, if I was a delegate ( or anyone else involved in the union) I would want everyone to be like you, so agreeable. I just think we are entitled to full pay & benefits for however long we are out. It's not like our douche bag boss can't afford it.

Neils already been paid for all the work we do so it would be no problem for him just to pay us as the norm as these are extenuating curcumstances and we're real ppl with families still to support.  Just to throw some humanity in there.

Even though it is better than unemployment, we should not have our pay cut by 15%. This is not a temporary snow type situation. It is projected to last for an extended period. The Federal government is working on payroll tax cuts which will help us as well as the owners. The companies should do the right thing for their workers who may face difficulties. The owners have their contracts regardless. If anything they should be doing more to help their loyal workers who took cuts the last time so they can be competitive. Remember the sacrifices made to help them. It's time they step up and help us.

Well said rc, but Neil only cares about what goes in his pocket, not about his loyal workers or their families.

Hey, I agree that we're "entitled" to it but would you rather have the other scenario I laid out?

And you know it's not a question of whether he can afford it ... it's about the bottom line, period.

It would be nice if what you guys are saying would be so, but there is no personal or emotional attachment between these companies and their employees. It is just a business to them and they're going to run them as profitably as they can. Sentiment does not distract them from making as much as possible. There is no human quality involved. We're in the "expenses" column on the ledger sheet. It's just business.

I agree with you. I'll take 85% and Medical over unemployment and No Medical. I would assume that down the road the Board will see if Neil only got 85% or not. At that time no matter what Neil got then the Board can decide if we should go after the other 15%. What gets me is that I first posted these wage and medical questions on this & other sites 3 days ago and basically no one responded. Now AFTER the shit hits the fan is when Members respond. That's why our Union is where it's at. Many Members (not all) only show concern after the fact!

I think if we knew for certain we would get this 85 plus benefits until this is all over no matter what the date, would be more settling.  The other scenario u mentioned would s--k.

Yes, it would be but ... and this is JUST MY OPINION ... I don't see that happening. Best case scenario is that this thing will be behind us and we'll go back to work on the 20th. If not, what will happen after that will be a topic of today's EB meeting and hopefully we'll have an answer today as well. I'll keep everyone posted.

I think a lot of people had the same questions. Many people were talking about it at work. But although we thought it was a possibility, I don't know if anybody really believed that schools would close ... including the union ... due to de Blasio's repeated refusal to do so.

As is often the case ... whether it's the mayor, governor or our union ...  really tough decisions aren't made until circumstances force them to be made.

The revolving door of new drivers should be enuf to show him he needs us to keep this place running.  He already has the money by giving us 85 hes gets to pocket 15 plus  whatever federal assistance we get.  Hell get to keep.  This is why we have a union this isnt our fault we shouldn't be penalized.  It should be status quo for 39 weeks.

How do we know he "already has the money." The city gives him all his money up front?

How do we know he's not getting only 85%?

What federal assistance?

Is the virus Neil's or the union's fault?

How do we know we won't be getting paid for 39 weeks? (Even if at 85%)

Ladies and gentleman what is important now is your family.  The San Francisco Bay Area just issue a shelter in place order, by Thursday we should be under the same order. ConEd and the Gas Company suspended all shut offs.  Realizing uncertainty su*ks DONT sell us short with 85%, let the union work it out and then we can act together.

Get paid for what and when?
Are you talking about after April 20th?
Because from previous posts I'm under the understanding that we are getting at least 85% pay until April 20th.

I'm ASSUMING that his conferences with the city have to do with determining whether the city is going to honor their contract so that Neil continues to get paid so that we can continue to get paid. I would think it would be a "given" but this is the "city."

Contrary to what another poster said, Neil does NOT get paid in advance. Like most other businesses, he gets paid AFTER the service is rendered ... usually the following month, if he's lucky. No secret that the city is not the most prompt payer. (Ask anybody in any industry doing business with NYC.)

We've been told we're good at 85% to the 20th, and we'll have to take that at face value. As far as beyond that date, I know we all want answers NOW, including myself. We're just going to have to stay calm and wait for accurate guidance from the union going forward. I promise I'll let you know the minute I hear anything. That's the best I can do.

Ok thanks.
Here's my thoughts. Whether it's  85% or 100% until April 20th then if we're still out after that we will continue getting paid. My reasoning is Neil is not going to pay us for the next 5 weeks until April 20th unless he's getting paid by the City. Which means that both the City and Neil are honoring their respective contracts. So why wouldn't they do it after April 20th? Furthermore the Mayor has to realize honoring the contract with the Contractors literally affects thousands of us workers and our families. A contract is a contract and I understand this is an unprecedented circumstance but if the City decided to not honor their contract with the Contractors then they would have to do that across the board. Which means including the Teachers and Paras who the majority of will not be teaching.

I'd hold off on that. You don't want to claim and then get a paycheck.

Just got off the phone with Ernie and he also says to do nothing with unemployment at this time and we should have more information by the end of the week. Sit tight.

Apples to oranges. The teachers are paid directly by the city, we are not. Teachers get paid during the summer, we do not. The teachers have the UFT, have 1181.

for the week ending that day, BUT HAVE UNTIL THE FOLLOWING SATURDAY TO DO SO.

I should have made that more clear. I'm not sure that the person who asked about unemployment is not a new employee. Ernie did not yet have an answer as to whether they are included in the 85% til the 20th. That is specifically what my question to Ernie was and I failed to state that.

Sorry for the confusion ... and giving you a scare!

Yes Buzz that's what you have been saying all along up until this morning when you posted that Ernie said hold off on calling Unemployment until we see "if" we get a paycheck or not. You then said that we have until Sunday to make the call to Unemployment and Ernie said to wait to the end of the week to see what happens and he gives us more information. I don't know if they're ur exact words. Your post this morning put doubt into not only mine but other drivers that I spoke with today. That's why I called the Union. And even after hearing it from that woman at the union I still have my doubts because even though she said it without any hesitation that we are getting paid but still to this moment we have not heard directly from Ernie or Michael. How could she say it instantaneously and us not hear it from Micheal yet?

I think I made it clear that I was not sure if the person asking about unemployment was a NEW HIRE ... and I failed to mention that in my reply. Sorry.

When we were told by Ernie that we'd be paid til 4/20, it DID come from Michael ... and the woman on the phone wouldn't have said it without hearing it from Michael either.

I have no reason to believe that has changed.

Ok just a little misunderstanding. Now a far as updating email addresses. Is that for ADP and/or Pioneer? I'm already on with the payroll company. I did that on my own but  would you know if Pioneer needs our email addresses also for future correspondences? If so, I called the job around 12:00 and there was no answer.
