Amazing please read
This is the same bullshit article that was the other day. Again using a metrocard to catch covid in a city bus makes no sense! Idiots
Not sure you read the article entirely. It states the reason for alternate transportation. I'm reading that there won't be enough room on school buses due to 25% capacity. This shows strong job security. They need every bus operating. It also states that no student is permitted to enter a bus without face covering. If they don't have a face covering one will be provided. This I feel will be a big problem. They will want on a new one every day. Can only imagine what will happen at stops like 55 Holland Ave or RJJ kids. It'll be messy
School bus safety protocol in Kentucky
https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/news/video/school-buses-adapt-kids-safe-covid-19-crisis-72209193
I agree with Steady on this one. The way I am reading that article it doesn't appear that they are looking to cut buses. It seems more apparent that even if all the buses are on the road with the social distancing protocols that are in place there will not be enough room for all the children. It could be and I stress could be we are in a better position than we think. The only problem is that Cuomo has not ruled yet and hopefully he doesn't follow the same path as Chicago and not open.
I've mentioned before that I believe special ed runs will at least double. OPT will most likely allow buses with one door to be used for special ed. It is not a state requirement that special ed have 2 doors and I'm sure contractors aren't going to rush out and buy thousands of new vehicles.

I just ran into this article
Straight Vans only have one door
They should just say the need fir busses will be greater due to social distancing so they will need more busses. Its all so dramatic just say it already!
I tell ya, all I've been reading on this website is a lot of back-and-forth, and people posting articles that they've read in a newspaper or website. I think that's a shame! The silence is most damaging, I think it's a shame that since March 13 we haven't gotten anything official from Pioneer or our union. Not even a letter from Pioneer telling us to please stay put and stay patient we're gonna need you when we go back to work. Even a little something to put us at rest.Send us a reassuring email of any sort, because I'm sure I'm like the rest of you, extremely stressed out and unsure about our future. Somebody say something, we are knee-deep in August and not a word.

I think once Cuomo makes his decision tomorrow you'll see a domino affect and we will be flooded with emails and calls of what to do and what is going to be expected
In the best of times communication between Pioneer 1181 and ourselves was never very good what would make anyone one of us expect better in the WORST of times. The only way we will get any communication is if Cuomo says yes to opening the schools otherwise we will be kept at bay just as always. I guess we should know something within 24 hours. Hoping someone has heard our concerns and has some good news for us.
the governor said today he will make his ruling on schools by each region...my guess is i see him keeping NYC closed ...tomorrow will tell...
Regardless if the governor says New York City schools will be opening on September 10 or not opening I seriously doubt that you are going to hear anything about general education busing for at least another two weeks.
I lost all respect for our union...

i need to correct you on this one the last time we heard from them was on April 30th to tell us we were losing everything.
True, I stand corrected.
If schools don't open this September you can also kiss a pensionable year away. You need to accumulate 1,000 working hours by the end of the school year ie:Sept.-June. The 1000 hours we need to accumulate starting in Sept. ends around March 15th. If school start 3-4 months later you can kiss 1 year toward your pension goodbye. The bad part is that when we do work we still pay toward our pension with no personal benefit.
I'm not happy with the way our union operates but Andy did give us an update July 31
Would it matter if the union or pioneer updated us ? I mean honestly does anyone truly think you would be more at ease or even possibly satisfied with what they tell us. The truth is unfortunately they have absolutely nothing to tell us because the city has yet to tell anyone anything. I had a conversation with a vice principal yesterday and she informed me that her school has yet to get together to formulate a plan should school open in September. And she stated that the reason for that is they have yet to be given any guidance from the city. I hope I am wrong but I doubt we will be happy after Cuomo makes his statement tomorrow.
Well, it's called leadership. During a crisis you don't let your people sit for months panicking and wondering wtf is going on. You step up to the plate and keep your people informed, tell them anything. You don't let months go by when peoples lives are at stake, send out an email every so often letting us know how hard your working for us, put a letter in the mailbox. Anything! That's what leaders do
I am not saying there should not have been more communication. But what I am asking is would it have really mattered. Every time Buzz posted something he was passing on from a conversation he had with Ernie he was somewhat attacked. Nothing that has been posted here seems to have been able to pacify the masses. There has been plenty of information posted on this site to both try and answer questions and also to pass along information and yet a lot of us are still angry and upset and yes that may be rightfully so. But the real reason most of us are angry and upset is because we are in a terrible situation which doesn't appear to be getting better any time soon. I truly wish the answers were much simpler but there not and unfortunately the situation sucks. But the truth is we do not have great leadership or communication in the best of times why would anyone expect it to be better now.

Thank you for that. ;D
Honestly, I do think, just to make us feel somewhat connected, Michael could issue an "update" every now and then, even if it's to tell us there's nothing new to tell us.
Buzz I totally agree, there most certainly should have been much more communication between Pioneer 1181 and us. But to be honest I truly don't think it would have made much of a difference. Unfortunately these are very difficult times for millions and millions of people. The truth is and you know it when everyone was receiving the extra 600 from unemployment they were less stressed. I understand and appreciate everyone's frustration but to your credit you have tried your best to keep everyone as informed as you possibly could. I myself have tried to post things that hopefully helped some but it's a tough battle because everyone deals with these uncertainties differently. I continue to hope for the best for everyone involved.
What Michael did or didn't do is all in the past and doesn't make a difference. The extra $600 is in the past and even though financially it helped out it didn't take away any stress at least from my standpoint. Now I just pray that General Ed busing is not discontinued. As I have stated before with the amount of children opting for a five day remote learning and with two and three day alternating in school learning there will be plenty of room for social distancing on the school buses. I just hope that the powers to be at the Mayor's Office and the BOE realize this and that Micheal gets involved or is involved in promoting this. Also I pray that Micheal does not get ridiculous with safety precautions in order for us to return to work which could possibly have a reverse effect. Obviously we all see from this site and other sites that the overwhelming majority of us want to return to work. I for one feel that just using my common sense along with social distancing and masks and disinfecting the buses will be ample for the safety of ourselves and the children on the buses.

According to a Post article about a month ago, of 150,000 kids transported, 52,000 are special ed. I'm thinking that to adhere to distancing guidelines (whatever they are) they would need to at least double ... possibly triple ... special ed runs. We may not be as bad off as it might seem right now, even if there is no regular ed.
Of course, this is assuming that there is school at all ... which I doubt.
Well I always said that I think to would be a domino affect once he gave the green light. He wants final plans by August 21st so I'm assuming between August 14-21 is when you'll hear all the full detailed plans once they pass the board of health. We are lucky because we work in SI and those districts(parents) want schools to go back so we don't have a to worry about the other districts. I think now that he made the announcement is when well hopefully we should be hearing from pioneer soon regarding the city take over or returning back to work in general

im with Buzz.. i think we will see special ed only and many more runs also... these parents have been begging for schools to open since may...these poor kids really need in class instructions..so i think you will see a large numbers of parents choose in room learning... and the walk on vans i think will be useless with social distancing and say 14 kids on a big bus can lead to many more runs... also fingers crossed on staying below the 3% infection rate
I'm not really sure if the majority of parents are in favor of returning to the classroom. Many ore worried about safety. Also, 2 or 3 days a week plays havoc with their work schedules. Hard to establish a routine. Feel sorry for parents of school aged children, it's not going to be easy any way they go.
According to dumb Blasio 75% of 400,000 parents surveyed want to return to brick & mortar
This is what im saying social distancing the kids need more busses ull be surprised how many parents will be happy to send their kids to school bcz virtual just doesnt cut it. Especially the special needs kids! And the kids moving up.to new schools. quote author=Buzz link=topic=1996.msg11120#msg11120 date=1596823880]

If you can believe him. ;D
Whether or not the amount of Special Ed buses stays the same, doubles or even triples it's really not a good thing and if it's considered good it's only partially good and that's only for the next 6 to 7 months. If we were to lose General Ed busing, no matter how many Special Ed runs there are there will still be members losing their jobs. Furthermore once a vaccine is found then the amount of Special Ed busing will go back to normal and at that time more members will lose their jobs. Lastly as we all know once something is taken away the chances of getting it back is slim. We need our Reps, our Membership and the parents to do whatever is needed to ensure that if this idea of removing Gen Ed busing is true to immediately put a stop to it before it takes place.
They will never do away with reg Ed. It just may not work at this point in time.
Guys we finally got great news today.....positive not negative going forward. Stop speculating off articles from the past
Yabba
I hear you but it's not an article from the past. There was another article today.
Sorry yabba I meant WigWag
And I'm not being negative. And being positive asking for assistance just in case. As I've repeatedly said ... Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

I think we will be fine and not just have it for special ed. What I'm saying is I would rather hear it from someone in our union compared to going stir crazy from news articles. Decisions were made today and our union jumped on it given us positive information today.

I love it
I just watched that episode last night
https://www.silive.com/coronavirus/2020/08/2020-2021-school-year-26-of-nyc-families-choose-full-time-remote-learning.html
26% of students elected to stay at home schooling.
The Mayor & DOE still leaving us and the parents in limbo with regards to General Ed busing. It's all bull shit and has nothing to do with COVID-19 as they state. I look at the numbers and the format for in-school learning and in my opinion the numbers don't lie. There is enough room to accommodate the Special Ed and General Ed students that will be in NEED of busing while adhering to social distancing. This is either about money, breaking the Union, money under the table, favors, etc. or all of the above. Give me 5 minutes with this Asshole on TV and I'd have him talking in circles in order to cover up his BS. Hopefully whatever scheme he's working on falls through and we'll have nothing to worry about.

But we don't know how many of them ride the bus. Hmm ...
It's just like when u take a survey or poll. If it's 26% of all students then I'd say it's got to be between 20 and 30% of bus students.

I just ran into this article
Glad I skimmed through these posts again because I had missed this one the first time around. We're not allowed to have hand sanitizer on the bus ... not even drivers or matrons ... because it's combustible due to its alcohol content? This is insanity! Many kids have little bottles of sanitizer hanging from their bookbags. Now, when it's particularly needed, it's not allowed? This is one rule with which I will not be in compliance. Ridiculous! Give me the fine ... if you catch me.
I saw this the other day and thought how insane these geniuses are. I've kept a bottle in the glove compartment always will continue to as well. It's still sitting in my bus as we speak.
Anyone hear anything about safety precautions on the bus, Plexiglas, plastic curtain, ect?
I THINK the DOE changed that. I think that they said that there will be hand sanitizer on the bus but it will be non-alcoholic hand sanitizer. Which makes no sense because the science has been telling us since the beginning of this virus that all hand sanitizer should be I believe 60% or more alcohol in order for it to kill the virus.
I feel bad for whoever has ps 25 or Mt Loretto I don't believe those kids will be following the rules

Exactly. Non-alcoholic "sanitizer" is useless as far as trying to prevent the spread of the virus.

I know I posted the reopening plan the DOE sent to the state Health Dept. somewhere, but thanks for calling this to my attention:
"School buses will be equipped with non-flammable hand sanitizer, such as foaming sanitizer that is regularly used in medical facilities and is non-flammable."Source: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/school-year-20-21/district-school-reopening-plan-submission-to-nysed/transportation
