Title: I hesitate to ask this but ...
Post by: Golfnut on December 02, 2020, 12:06:38 AM
I have been looking for this answer and have not found it .. I am only asking because I can't find the answer .. If Schools are in the Orange or Red Zones will they still be opening up on the 7th ?

That is the million dollar question. Based on the guidelines Cuomo put in place all faculty and students must get tested before entering their respective schools. They needed to be closed for 4 days as well but this week should cover that.
Dumblasio has also mandated that every child must submit a signed consent form concerning the random COVID testing before they can enter the schools.
Here's hoping they get that all worked out this week.

It really is a crazy situation. 99 percent of parents want their kids in school but how many will feel comfortable having their child get tested.

Also think of this logic. You get your kid tested today, results come back Thursday, you go to school Monday with the results, Friday-Sunday you still could have caught it.

As long as they have the required amount of testing done I would assume they will.

I mean seriously, how does the city expect to retain school bus drivers if we're going on unemployment every month or two?
Title: Re: I hesitate to ask this but ...

I am not so sure the city cares I would bet they feel that's more of the contractor's problem.

Listen it looks like things may start to change regarding the testing of children and staff and the positivity rate at which they would shut down the schools. If all that has put out there is true hopefully all of us will get back to work sooner than later and hopefully it will be for good this time. We need to stay strong for a short time longer and if all goes the way it appears we should be good.

The way I see it, if they still go by the same individual school closing guidelines with the new testing requirements, there will probably be so many schools closed within 2 weeks that he might just close the whole system down again.

Hey Buzz,
Is that recent ? Or is it the original guidelines ?
I for one do not see them doing that all over again. Dumblasio and the BOE should be sure to have a better plan this time because if not they suck even more than I thought they did. This is people's lives they are playing with.

Original. "... if they still go by the same individual school closing guidelines ..."

I would think if it changed they would have already updated it as they have the guidelines for reopening in orange zones.

This is ridiculous there is so much double talk and bullshit rhetoric being spewed by both Dumblasio and Cuomo that it's almost impossible to figure this shit out. They both need to stop the bullshit and put out guidelines they both agree on because as it stands it's set up to fail once again. Between the two of them I doubt they have the brains nor the balls they were born with.

All people involved in the NYC school system need something we can understand and believe in. From parents to children faculty and bus drivers and matrons we all deserve the same stability those two morons are afforded.

Well according to the article on SILive it seems Buzz you are correct. Dumblasio is intent on sticking to his original guidelines so I guess the roller coaster ride continues.

And here is yet another article that may be worth the read. Be sure to read it to the end.
According to this article state guidelines have changed and schools should not have to close if they fall within an orange zone going forward.

Yabba,
I know there were some extended closures that were put in place before the shutdown. Not sure if they will lift them or keep them in place since all schools have been closed since last Thursday.

I truly think it's there intent to baffle us with bullshit to cover up there many mistakes in their lame attempt at getting the school system up and running.

Yeah, something is not right with that COVID map. Who knows.

This dummy mayor pushing for 5-days a week. That would only put more kids in the school at the same time, which would increase the chance of spread and the school being shut down. Now is NOT the time to go to 5 days. Leave well enough alone ... but this jerk loves stepping on his own dick.

Any word on what's going to happen as of Monday? For those who aren't working do they come in and service their public schools if they are open?
Title: Re: I hesitate to ask this but ...

I know this has been said a million times but unless everyone goes back to work I believe they are going to continue to use the list of drivers that initially volunteered to work.

Hoping to get further direction from the union later today. Can't be sure, though.

Yes but if Junior men start getting called with Public Schools opening you would do your own run, you wouldn't do someone else run due to a senior driver currently doing our run correct ?

From what I believe, the list was for those who wanted to cover Jewish or Catholic schools the week after Thanksgiving due to the fact all New York City public schools were closed. It wasn't a list of those who wanted to take the rest of the year off. Now, as of Monday Some public schools are reopening, the million dollar question is do the drivers of those schools go back to work. All anybody was asked when they put the name on the list is do they want to cover a Jewish or Catholic school after Thanksgiving, and you will cover those schools until public schools reopened. Again, it wasn't a list for those who wanted to take the rest of the year off,

it was a list for people who wanted to WORK PERIOD. It had nothing to do with what type of schools that were opened. It just so happened to be catholic and private schools. I do special needs children and my school is a catholic school. I missed the cut by 10 names because drivers who only do public schools volunteered to work. Well this time around I am going to work even if it mean someone else doesn't.

I will be damned if a junior driver who does public schools works before I do. Sorry but you can't have it both ways.

If you get called back to work and your run is going out yes you would do your own run. Whomever had it would be moved to cover a different run.

its not having it both ways...its about being told exactly what was going on... i was asked if i wanted to cover a private run,i  i chose to wait for my school to open and not take a run from a lesser senority driver...so now there is no way a driver with less senority then myself is going to take my run...  things were not made clear ....

Thanks Hammer cause right now a senior driver is covering my run due to my Jewish school being open. I would have two PS schools opening up Monday so if I get called back then I'd do all three schools. Also for the record as a junior man I never got asked to be put on a list, I assume they won't create another list it would pick up where it left off from and go down that list and when it got to me
I'd do my run. I'm just hoping they tell everyone today to come in Monday and do your own run

What is so hard to understand... IF ONLY 200 runs are active regardless of what type of school it is
Then they would only need 200 drivers +a few shapes. Unfortunately the rest would still be on furlough...

Yabba,
I am not going to stand here and debate how the list was established all I can go by is what was told to me. I can not nor will I speak for anyone else. But all I know is this the precedent was set and a list was established. They need to continue to offer work on a seniority basis off of that list until everyone is back at work. I know that unfortunately it will suck for some if we all do not return to work on Monday but unfortunately it is what it is.
I truly hope we all get back to work Monday so we can put this bullshit behind us.
