Being an older driver I was looking for a better way to jump out of the rear emergency exit for the physical performance test. I found this in NYS Test Guidlines:
"Second, a foam rubber gym mat, not thicker than four inches, can be placed on the ground behind the bus emergency door. This will not only help to cushion knees and ankles from shock, it will also provide a more comfortable surface if a driver falls forward after landing."
This would make that part of the test a lot less intimidating for an old fart like me. ;D
