Because there's been some confusion, yes, this is our 17th GUARANTEED week of the year for those to who it applies.
Claim unemployment Sunday, Jan 4.
Apparently, according to Pioneer, this is not correct. See explanation below.
Buzz Last year I opened my new claim the day after Xmas as per instructed to get Xmas this year and I would miss presidents week. Now my year End date is 12/28/25 now I'm missing UI for Xmas back to back years. The 4th is gonna be my waiting week
Yes, I'm being told that payroll says this is not a guaranteed week I was going according to the guaranteed week calendar that 1181 sent me earlier in the year.
My apologies for the confusion! It is not, repeat, not a guaranteed week.
Below is the calendar sent to me by our delegate at the beginning of the year. You can see this week is labeled guaranteed week 16. (It is number 17 for us because the first week of school was the first guaranteed week for us, but not all companies.)
Being we're paid by the company and not 1181, payroll says this is NOT a guaranteed week and that's what we'll have to go by. (This calendar was on ATU's website but now they have the calendar for 2024 ... ????)
I apologize for any confusion but honestly, it's not my fault. I mean if you cant trust the union, who can yuou trust??? ;D ;D ;D

You should open a new book the first day you're out of work. I'll be doing juist that tmorrow.

I can't open up a claim tomorrow my year end date is the 28th
Last year my end date was the 22nd, I opened up the 23rd so my new dates were
Beginning 23rd, ending the 28th
So that's 2 years in a row I can't claim unemployment that we are off? Is that normal or is that a freak accident given how the dates fall for me because if I open my new claim on the 29th my new end date is going to be January 3rd 2026 which allows me to collect Xmas next year when we are off
Well if your BYE is the 28th you won't be able to open a new claim until Monday the 29th. And yeah, it's just how the dates fall.
My BYE was in August so I will open a claim tomorrow and at least 3 days will count toward my waiting week and I should get partial benefit when I claim on the 4th.
So it's just a freak accident how my dates played out....
Last year my Unemployment year end date was 12/22/24. So I opened up a new claim on 12/23/24 making my new beginning and end dates 12/23/24-12/28/25 which means not only would I have missed unemployment during Christmas last year BUT this year as well because when I open up my new claim on 12/29/25 then when everyone claims on 1/4/26 that would be my waiting week. Now next year my new dates would be 12/29/25-1/4/26 which would allow me to get unemployment next year during Christmas week. So has anyone ever missed two years of unemployment during Christmas week or is this just a freak accident how my days lined up.
Sorry for the confusion, hope someone gets what I'm trying to say
Just the way the dates lined up.
It's official. The union .... and ME ... are right! This IS a guaranteed week!!!
