I have to say, the appointment system they use at the DMV now is pretty good ... now wait only minutes instead of hours like in the "old" days.
But when you make the appointment online they do not tell in the confirmation email you that you have to fill out an application ... available online or at the DMV ... and that you must bring your birth certificate. Had to go all the way back home and get it.
Even if you have a "Real ID" you need your birth certificate. However if you have an "Enhanced ID" you do not.
