Title: Big Meeting Today
Post by: Buzz on November 13, 2015, 03:24:28 PM
I'm told the DOE called the union and contractors in for a big pow-wow this morning. I'm guessing this can only be a good thing as talks have not only stalled in previous meetings but actually went in reverse!

You've got to love the transparency, and how they keep their members informed.

Haven't talked to Ernie, but Andy said that there was a "lot of back-and-forth" and the meeting lasted all day ... into the early evening. Presumably they are making some kind of progress, but nothing firm yet. They are scheduled to all meet again tomorrow, Tuesday.

Any news on progress,if any at today's meeting.
Title: Re: Big Meeting Today

OK, the meeting was NOT with the city, but a federal mediator was present. Lasted all day again ... until 6:00 without making any meaningful progress. Michael has a conference call with the mayor's office again tomorrow. It's not looking good and although they're trying to avoid it ... at this point at least ... a strike seems almost inevitable.

The one thing to remember is, if and when we do get a contract WE have the final say as to whether or not to accept it.

It is time to have an off site union meeting with only Pioneer drivers.
In order to discuss our options and action to be taken.

We have him 7% back.
Let's not forget no one FORCED any of us to sign the last contract.

Well, if these so called great negotiators would have actually used their heads they easily would have seen this coming. Who gives things back on a "promise" to maybe get it back.  On a promise to possibly revisit the issue if we get an extension. %#@*ing idiots !  It should have said, "we get it back upon an extension". What the @@ck were they thinking !  I heard a lot of tough talk in the beginning of the year and during the refresher courses about "we'll lock the gates it we don't get what we want".  Well here we are.  Bargain my money away on a damn promise. I don't want to hear they had no choice, that's bullshit there's always a choice.

Rock Steady
I understand EXACTLY what you are saying about the current contract, the givebacks and the negotiators. The only thing you left out was that the OVERWHELMING majority of members at Pioneer agreed to that contract. The thing I don't understand is that the majority always does exactly what the Union suggests which in all probability (since they know better than us) is the best thing available. BUT .... As always no one with the exception of myself and a couple (and I mean a couple literally) of members tells Ernie and/or the Union Reps. what's on their minds until after the fact if not at all. Don't get me wrong I'm not talking about you or any member personally but I'm curious with regards to your last post did you state that to our Representation in front of other Members before we signed it? I've come to see that for the most part many of us do not speak what's on our mind, we just go along with the majority. I personally believe in speaking what's on my mind to everyone from Micheal on down whether or not it is the favorable idea around. But I speak before a decision is made. Having said that, no matter what I am a Union member ... So the majority has spoken ... If we need to Strike Lets Go!

The last I heard,Neil's last offer was,get NOTHING back with a 1% increase.Take it go on strike. Not that we should care what he does,it seems to me he's not concerned about his loses or how it will hurt him if we strike. It does make wonder what his plan is to be dug in.If he's  not afraid to take the huge financial hit,I don't see how we will benefit from a strike .We can't make a sound decision without all the facts on both side.We need a special meeting sat Pioneer yard and have some questions answered.Again as I said before,we're in the dark.
Title: Re: Big Meeting Today
Post by: PROUD MEMBER on November 19, 2015, 10:00:37 PM
I agree with LMR 100%. Furthermore we should have had this type of meeting before the strike vote but that is the past. Let's not make the same mistakes that we've made in the past. As far as an actual meeting of Pioneer members it should be a special order of business meeting held at a hall of all the members of all the Pioneer yards including Micheal, all the delegates and shop stewards. Not a stand around for a 1/2 hour outside in the elements in each Pioneer yard seperatly. We are Union members who's livelihoods are on the line and we should be treated as such and demand (if needed) as much!

Excellent point,Proud Member about all Pioneer yards at one meeting in at an auditorium with Michael and all necessary delegates so we can have an intelligent discussion so we can make an intelligent decision. There's a lot at stake!!As members in good standing,I believe we deserve at least that much consideration.

Ernie is at Pioneer every day. It's possible that he's not there at a time when it's convenient for you ... like the exact time you come in in the morning or waiting for you when you get back in the afternoon ... but he's there all day, every day, unless he's out on union business. ANYBODY is welcome to come back during the day and talk to him ... he will be more than happy to answer your questions and tell you whatever he can. (You can always call first and make sure he's there.)

Being you guys are on here, you know just about everything he could possibly tell you. There is no "news." Talks are stagnant and are going nowhere, but if you want to hear it from the horse's mouth you have every right to ... go in and see him.

Or, you can wait for the yard meeting he intends to call very soon.

Apparently you are missing the whole point here and I'm not going to get into one of those back and forth things. This is not about Ernie or if Ernie and when Ernie is around. We all know we can talk to Ernie but the only problem with that is its on a one on one basis. It's about all of the Union Members of Pioneer sitting down with each other and with all of our Representation and discussing the future of ourselves & our families. Please don't play stupid here. You know as well as I do from talk around the yard, talk at the schools and talk on this site that all of us are fed up with everything and that we are far from all being on the same page. Regardless of what Neil is or is not offering there are guestions & issues that need to be addressed with all the Members of Pioneer present in a respectable atmosphere and then we'll take it from there. I have hope & respect for all in involved so I'll leave it at that.
Title: Re: Big Meeting Today
Post by: Buzz on November 20, 2015, 02:35:19 AM
Not "playing stupid" and I resent the remark. You seem to think that if you had everybody together and the entire executive board at your disposal, that you could get answers you could not otherwise get. Not true. There is no magic bullet, none of them have any more to say than Ernie and, like it or not, Pioneer is not any more (or less) important to 1181 than any other company ... except to Ernie.

And if you could get EVERYBODY to kick in say, $10, maybe we could hire a hall for the meeting. (Good luck with that.)

How do you know what the Board has to say but besides that the point is NOT SHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY it's what we the MEMBERS AT PIONEER HAVE TO SAY. Furthermore what are you saying to Ernie and the EB we are only worth a meeting in a hall if we pay for it. Oh and by the way we already do. It comes out of our checks every week and physically & emotionally out of the stress that this job has given all of us over the last few years. I like Ernie and believe he thinks of our best interests  but I think it's time to give it a break. He can speak for himself. One more thing with regards to a special order of business meeting. If people around here starting speaking OUT LOUD what's on their minds and not yesing Ernie the Board would have no recourse but to have that meeting. When the vote and Michael and the Executive Board's jobs were on the line there was a special order of business meeting and Ernie & the Members of Pioneer of Staten Island were and are the main reason they were elected in the first place and able to keep their jobs. Now you're telling me when our livelihoods are on the line it doesn't work that way. Not true. The only thing that makes it true is people like you saying it won't happen. I come on this site and try my best to be respectful and to keep specific thoughts (whether mine or other members) off the site for the world including Neil to see. So I'll say one more thing. I talk to Ernie a lot and I talk to just about every Member that crosses my path. The general consensus is we need a civilized meeting with ALL the members of ALL the yards with our President and EB. This is our futures and I RESENT anyone whether it's you, Ernie, Micheal making light of it.

So your saying Ernie said it won't happen and apparently you are like Ernie because you're repeating it. The bottom line is from my informal poll (which you yourself said is always right) the majority of the Members want it but like you they are afraid to say something OUT LOUD that Ernie doesn't agree with. I'm sure with my last few posts I have made my point. Your comments are about what Ernie says. Mine are about what the Members are saying and Ernie would be the first one to agree with me. As far as this site goes I really can't put it out there in anymore black-and-white. As I stated 3 or 4 posts ago I do not want to go back & forth. So I'm done. If need be I'll take a different route. Stay United but speak your piece!

Ernie made a point of hanging around the drivers room Friday afternoon. As of the time I came in, nobody had asked him about a special union meeting or Pioneer-only meeting. People will come on here and piss and moan, but when they have the perfect opportunity to voice their concerns in person, DON'T.

So you answered your own question about a meeting ..obviously you don't go to meetings..because if you did you could ask anything you wish..and speak freely..I never said no one can speak up..read it again..it says SPEAKING UP!!!

I know Ernie says when to go to IMPORTANT meetings..But he NEVER said you shouldn't go to any meeting. I have always heard him say it is YOUR option if you want to go or not. It's posted once a month every month.

You say that members don't want to disagree with Ernie..but I have had some serious talks with him and there were things I disagree with and told him. So what's their problem? He can only tell us what is going on. And sometimes it's nothing.

I have asked him the same thing that everyone else does..*What's going  On"? And his answer to me was *We are going back and forth in negotiations but other than that nothing yet..I have nothing good to bring back to members"

AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I READ HERE.

I just asked you simply to clarify your post. I didn't put words in your mouth. I didn't say anything about what Ernie said or didn't say. So I'll leave you with three facts. One, I don't think it is beneficial to us to discuss specifics on this site. Two, everything that I post or have ever posted on this site is the truth and is being posted in concern for myself, my family and my Union Brothers & Sisters and their families. Lastly, I'll be at the Union Meeting Tuesday night and I will ask a lot of questions.
