Title: Electric school busses
Post by: sbdriver1 on November 05, 2022, 07:03:09 PM
I just want to know what everyone thinks of having electric school busses.
The pros and cons.

No pros at all

Cons:
1) Put several mechanics out of a job
2) The Tesla cars are catching fire so we going to risk blowing up a yard of buses if one bus catches fire
3) who will be responsible for charging the buses
4) how many buses can be charged at 1 time?
5) putting at risk of running late or not getting to runs at all due to buses not charged.
6) damaging charging stations by buses backing up and swiping it.

Quote1) Put several mechanics out of a job
Very possible.

Quote2) The Tesla cars are catching fire so we going to risk blowing up a yard of buses if one bus catches fire
Not to mention the risk of having a busload of well-done kids.

Quote3) who will be responsible for charging the buses
Good question.

Quote4) how many buses can be charged at 1 time?
Guessing it will take overnight to charge a bus so there will have to be as many charging stations as buses.

Quote5) putting at risk of running late or not getting to runs at all due to buses not charged.
Not our problem. "Put me in the late system."

Quote6) damaging charging stations by buses backing up and swiping it.
C'mon, dude ... we're professionals!!   ;D  ;D  ;D

Another thought about the chance of fire ... we've had several buses catch fire. But they start under the hood and passengers have time to seek egress.

An electric bus's batteries are under the driver/passenger compartment. Lithiump-Ion batteries burn at a much higher temperature and seem to erupt all at once ... almost like an explosion. I think parents would be concerned.
