Grrr

I just voted like MY pension depends on it.

John Eadicicco

I can ONLY hope you voted for the Salerno Members for Change Slate. We All realize that our pension hangs in the balance of new hires, Cordiello doesn't seem to understand that. Signing a contract that doesn't treat new employees fairly, hurts our future. New hires DO NOT get a family medical plan, and only for themselves after 1 year! For the first time in my memory ALL companies are offering bonuses to drivers to recruit new employees! What does that tell us? Our future and our pension will suffer, no doubt about that!

Yeah, because Salerno is going to go in to the owners and demand this and that and they're going to shit their pants and grant his every wish. Fortunately, most people are not naive enough to believe this.

Newer members are the future of the union. The current leadership doesn't seem to realize it, or doesn't care!

What are you willing to give up so new hires can have more?

Do you honestly think the the "current leadership" didn't try for them also?

It's dreamers like you who buy the ridiculous promises of the pie-in-the-sky other slates.

I don't think 04012013 is willing to give up anything so new hires can have more. I also don't think 04012013 is a dreamer if he/she is thinking about another slate. The reason I say this is because in all probability 04012013 is a New Hire. After all anyone hired on or after April 1, 2013 (04012013) is a New Hire. Just my thoughts and if I'm right can you blame 04012013 for thinking this way.

The poster may well be a new hire. The problem with his thinking is that it's Michael's fault, as if he didn't try to get much better than what they have. Dues are based on a percentage of salary so of course they would want more for new hires if they could have possibly gotten more, among other reasons. And if he thinks either of the other two clowns could have done any better he/she is sadly mistaken.

Also, it is the membership who had the final say ... we ratified the contract. Were we willing to go on strike so new hires could get more?

Lastly, even new hires knew what the deal was going in. First they're happy just to have a job. After a little while they've got all kinds of complaints about the job they chose to take.

I'm not saying that the complaints are not legitimate, but the blame lies with the owners, not Michael. However, I think even new hires will have it better in the future. Companies cannot attract enough new people with the way things are now or keep enough of the ones that do come. Owners are slowly coming to the realization that they're going to have to do much better for new hires. No one-shot sign-up bonus is going to solve their manpower problems.

I assume most of us have returned our ballots but to those of you who have not and are still undecided all I can say is just remember which slate gave out the best PENS!

Good post Buzz that explains it very well and I do believe that's exactly how it went down.Unfortunately some people will just refuse to accept it .
