This is exactly what the owners want. Drivers divided and not united. We should have a drivers meeting at an off property location and get everyone on the same page.

rc1790  your 1000% right .. the bosses have been doing this for many years and the division grows more and more daily...sad how this garage alone would fill up a large section of the union meeting...i dont think you could fill a van today to a meeting.... all i can say is we sold out the new hires the past 2 contracts and we may not be seeing it now,but we are only hurting our pension fund in the future.. and we can only blame ourselves cause we voted the contracts in..

Buzz always skipping around the question......Are you happy with the last contract that you pay yourself when you go sick?

We have not had paid sick days since 1181 has been in existence. Should we have voted down all previous contracts because of that too? (At least newbies finally do.)

Yet you think losing benefits is not a good enough reason to go on strike. So we should have voted down a contract for something we NEVER HAD, but NOT vote down for something we've ALWAYS HAD?

Makes no sense.

I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

The NYS paid sick leave law is just that......A Law that MUST be followed...The Union changed the wording in the last contract and told us on the Friday before we were to go on winter recess break that if we vote no we WILL be on strike that afternoon AND we WON'T be able to collect unemployment the following week.....More then 50 drivers told me they changed their vote.....From no to yes.....Maybe your memory needs to be jogged?
You talk about making sense? Keep worshipping the demigods of 1181....Soon you won't even have a pension!!!!!!!

Buzz

You're right, John, it is THE LAW ... and as such, our union certainly does not have the ability to change THE LAW.

I'm sure you must know that THE LAW says, "the law does not apply if the collective bargaining agreement expressly waives the law's provisions and the agreement provides a comparable benefit to employees, such as paid time off."

So, THE LAW was followed in 2 ways:
1) The collective bargaining agreement waived the law.
2) The agreement provides a comparable benefit ... paid time off.

It may not be to our liking ... but it is THE LAW.

As for the timing of the would-be strike last contract, yes ... it sucked. And it looks like we might be on track for the same this time around.

I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

Why did 1181 CHANGE the wording to basically have us pay ourselves if we go sick Buzz.....Answer please!

Buzz

I don't know what you mean by "changed the wording." What ... according to you ... did they change it from?

John Eadicicco

I will put it this way....Why did they waive the law?

Buzz

I can only assume they waived the law because there was no way the owners were going to give us paid sick days in addition to the paid days off most of us get. (They do give it to hires after 2013 because they aren't paid those days, thus are required to by law.)

Originally we were not going to be able to use accrual to get "paid" for sick days but 1181 managed to get that concession from them. (But yes, it amounts to paying yourself.) Maybe that's what you mean by "change the wording" ... I don't know.

Strike is a bad bad word........Especially since the last strike accomplished ZERO.....We went backwards.....If a run does not get covered the vendor gets fined......Stop the madness......No more covering runs.....Would You rather be on strike getting no money? Wise up .......Neil would get fined approximately $15,000.00 per day for not covering work..... How long do you think he would put up with that? Do your own work and collect what you have earned....Its a simple process.......And DONT fall for the line the union will say" We must cover the work!" Yes cover YOUR own route that is all that is REQUIRED of the drivers!!!!!!!

$15,000 fine per day 180 school days=$2.7 million He will then eventually lose those runs and not be fined any longer.
$12,000 for medical insurance 350 employees annually=$4.2 million savings permanently.
I highly doubt he gives a shyt about the fines.

To all concerned
The union has never asked anyone to fill out any email addresses because if the union had the email addresses then the UNION would have emailed their response to the members. Also we would not have had to attach any letters to your trip cards or set them out on tables in the drivers room to see.

So let's get it straight..the union NEVER asked for email addresses.
If anyone has any questions about the contract emails addresses or the strike vote I will be in the drivers room tomorrow morning from 8:30 am on to answer any questions..so there is no second guessing from anyone from contract strike vote or addresses.

Damian Gilsenan Emails were needed for the PETS System. That's where the Company got them from.

You are absolutely correct Damian..however tbe UNION never asked nor had access to the membership emails or we would have used them the same way the companies did instead of making flyers.

this was posted on the FB page and as usual NO ONE showed up to discuss ask questions or inquire.
