If your benefit year has ended you should open a new book today so these 2 days will be a part of your unpaid waiting week.

Buzz quick question....

My Book ends Sunday 9/1. Would I be able to open up a claim on Monday 9/2 although we aren't claiming the first week of school being it's a guaranteed week? IF not when would be the next time for me to open a claim? Xmas week and that would be my waiting week?

Yes, you can open a new book on Monday, 9/1. Then certify the following Sunday (although they will tell you to do it a week from Wednesday for some unknown reason). No real advantage being we get paid for the week, but at least you get the "paperwork" out of the way. Christmas break will be your waiting week.

Thanks so I won't get UI for Xmas due to it being my waiting week(sucks) so my first UI check would likely be Presidents Week?

So claim Sunday 9/1 then open the new book 9/2

Thanks Buzz

Also, when I claim after opening the new claim on Monday 9/2 that following Wednesday/Sunday obviously when it says hours worked I put down 40 correct because it's a guaranteed week for us ?

Whether you open the new claim in September or Christmastime, winter break will be your waiting week ... no check.

Yes, when you certify you have to say that you worked 40 hours.

Something to consider though: If you open a book in September then you will have to open a new book next September and again you won't get a check at Christmas.

You might want to wait until Christmas break to open the new claim because next year your benefit year will begin on the Monday after you file the new claim and end accordingly the next year. Therefore, you'll get a check for Christmas next year ... but not for Presidents Week. Pay me now, pay me later ... LOL. Might be a consideration if you'd rather have the money around Christmas.

Yes ... Open the book the first day we're off, Tuesday 12/24.  Claim that Sunday. You will have worked one day that week. The following week we go back on Wednesday, 1/2 so you will work 3 days that week and we should get paid for the whole week. You won't be eligible for benefits that week so when Presidents Week comes they may take 1 day away from your benefits to fulfill your waiting week. (In other words, you'll get 75% of your benefit.) Kind of fucked up but I'm pretty sure this is the way it will work.

Why you making me work so hard when we're on vacation?  ;D  ;D  ;D
