Almost every day this past school year at one afternoon School, where there is about 30 buses and just about every day there's always one, two or three buses that are running a couple minutes after the rest of us already have our reds outs.
Then one of these buses will either ask others to put their Reds in or just slowly creep by the reds. Some of us as a courtesy will just put our reds in without being asked. Then sometimes there's that one bus that if you put your reds in for him/her, he/she won't just creep by he'll fly by.
I usually just leave my reds out but on the second to last day of school another bus caved into the pressure and put the reds in.
I saw a boy walking in between the buses toward the street as the other bus was going by and I laid my hand on my horn and thank God the boy stopped otherwise he definitely would've gotten hit by the passing bus.
What I'm leading up to is from now on all of us should not put our reds in no matter what and for those drivers that come a couple minutes late they should just sit back and wait to all the buses are loaded and pull away and then pull up. There are too many cameras around and too many cell phones around, and if a bus is either passing other buses or a bus is videoed putting their sign in for other buses you have a good chance of getting suspended and worst case scenario, a child has a good chance of getting hit by a bus.
Bottom line none of us would have a leg to stand on. And if a child did get hit by a bus, you who put your Reds might even face criminal charges for reckless engagement of a child.

You are spot on! But it is LEGAL for you to keep your reds on and wave another driver past ... school bus or otherwise. However, the liability then lies partly with you!

Better to just wait. Everybody is in such a hurry.
I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

What I didn't mention and wasn't gonna but now I will. When these couple of buses drive by 20 buses with their reds out, none of those 20 buses will blow their horns but if a car drives by the reds all 20 buses will blow their horns at the car!

What about the driver who is yelling at the driver to put his reds in over the radio!?! lol

In a related question, what do you guys do if your reds are flashing and a cop car, fire vehicle or ambulance comes from either direction with sirens blaring and lights flashing?

I leave my reds on and let them decide if they want to go through them. If you turn them off they may think it is okay to go speeding past you and your are libel if a kid gets hurt.

I agree.
Simple reasoning is an emergency vehicle responding to an emergency with lights and sirens always has the discretion to go through a red traffic light with caution.
So there's no reason for you or I to get involved in his decision-making.
