It's no different than any other job. If a cop shoots someone that appeared to have a gun then all cops are scum. If a sanitation worker throws ur garbage pail in the street then all sanitation workers are scum. If you're a person that believes in President Trump then all of you are scum. Etc., etc..
Only a few people look at the actual circumstances. Only a few people actually care. But many people are just negative.
What a shame!!!

People and Events / Member Retiring
September 17, 2025, 07:28:48 PM
This Friday, is Lee (one of the mechanics) last day. Unfortunately the past year he's had some health issues but appears to be on the road to recovery. I don't know if that's the reason that he's retiring or is it just that he's at that age and it's time to go. I just wanna wish him and his family health and happiness in the future and to all our Brothers and Sisters if you have a chance today or tomorrow, stop by and give him a nice farewell. I'm sure that that will make him feel good.

I remember when Senority actually meant something but for the past 10 years or so it really doesn't make much of a difference if you're #50 or #250.
Having said that this will be the first year in a long time that seniority does make a big difference. Reason being is with the increase coming in October with the Unemployment rate come the end of June, nobody (with the exception of members that work a 2nd job)is going to want to work summer school. So all the bottom guys will be forced to work it.

"IF" the General Ed runs come down on the 22nd then that would mean we will only be able to look at them on Saturday and Sunday (assuming the drivers room is open Saturday & Sunday). Common sense would dictate that the pick (at least Gen Ed) should be postponed as it usually is. And if it's not, that only gives Carmine 6 days (including the weekend) to figure out the Run Coverage. He may be good at it but that's really cutting it close.

1181 Matters / Convention
June 25, 2025, 06:07:45 PM
Let's send our Fellow Member to the Convention. Within the next few days, you should all be getting a ballot in the mail. It will instruct you that you could choose up to 20 different candidates.
If you really don't know any of the people that are listed on the ballot then my suggestion would be to vote for the one person that you do know.
And that person is Nico Casalino (spelled incorrectly on the ballot as Nicko)!!!
Here's why I'm voting for him and asking all others to do the same.
First and foremost he's just a good person.
Secondly, he's been working in the Shop Steward's Office for quite some time now. Something that he doesn't have to do, that he volunteers to do and that he does not get paid to do. He goes back to the yard every day and works in the Shop Steward's Office while many of us are sitting home on the couch watching the Price is Right.
Lastly, he is the only Member that I know besides the President & the Executive Board that literally goes to EVERY UNION MEETING!!!
When you do vote, make sure that unless you really want to vote for someone else on the list,  just vote for him. You do not have to vote for more than one person.
The more votes that he gets and the less votes that anyone else gets gives him a better chance.
He gives his all for all the Members at Pioneer and this Local in general.
I urge you to not throw the ballot in the garbage. All you have to do is check off one box, put it in the white envelope and then put it in the postage-paid green envelope and send it back ASAP.

Makes sense to me also

Not all. I know two drivers that have already put their papers in and June 26th will be their last day

And I'd assume anyone that's thinking about retiring at the end of June 2026 will wait until after the summer is over and retire in September 2026, no matter what the Union recommends

Would you know and if not can you find out.
If I open a new book this July and collect $504 all summer when Christmas week rolls around will I get the increase and go up to $869 or will I have to wait until next July when I open a new book?

1181 Matters / Re: Fret Slate Wins

I do recall one election between Salerno and M. Cordiello that the final numbers were 2000 and something to 2000 and something, that obviously Michael won but only by a couple hundred votes. I think they may even of had a recount. I also believe the reason Michael won is because Ernie campaigned for him and got a good amount of Pioneer Members to vote for Michael and not just throw the ballot in the garbage.

Not sure of the exact number but I think between active and retired Members it's probably somewhere between 8,000 and 10,000 that were eligible to vote yet only 3,300 people voted. Just goes to show another reason why our Local is struggling. It amazes me! All anyone had to do was mark an "X" in a box and put it in a postage paid envelope that was provided to you then put it in ur mailbox for ur postman to pick up. Literally all of 45 seconds. Meanwhile I'm bumping heads with the Management & even the Union for the benefit of All of Us. For what???
SMH. I shouldn't say nobody but it's pretty obvious not many care. Yet many are very happy about the recent Consent Award!!!

It was long but easy. All things that we should already know. To me, basically it was a refresher course.
