TO THE THOUSANDS OF SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS, ESCORTS, AND MECHANICS WHO ARE FIGHTING TO GET THEIR JOBS BACK BY SENIORITY   --  AND TO INSURE THOSE WHO ARE WORKING NOW ARE NOT LAID OFF IN JUNE 2015!

Three weeks ago  --  150 Drivers, Escorts and Mechanics – including those working and those NOT working, got together to try to solve their problems together in UNITY – AND OBSERVED:
3,500 of us - Union members are laid off and not working

The 1,000's of us, who are still working – but unsure of our job security after June 2015

Union leadership - so corrupt and unwilling to defend their members on the job.
A group of Bosses who completely control our daily lives in an arbitrary way – with no interference from the Union leadership.

WE DECIDED WE HAVE TO FACE UP TO THE PROBLEMS
WITH DETERMINATION
WITH STRUGGLE
WITH UNITY
AND WE LAID OUT THE FOLLOWING PLAN

1 – We took note that Mayor deBlasio and the City Council came through with the $42.0 Million Dollars to pay the correct salaries –
That was good.
2 – BUT:  For the more than 3,500 workers who were laid off OUT OF SENIORITY – IT WAS OF NO HELP
3 – BUT:  For the thousands still working – Extreme worry about future illegal layoffs – come June 2015

WE DECIDED ON THE FOLLOWING PLAN
A – Create a grass roots movement of 1,000's
B – GET 2,700 School Bus Workers to sign our Petition (need 700 more)
C – Hold weekly meetings – Done
D – The Petition said ( it is also attached ) The $42.0 Million Dollars is good BUT it must go to the workers BY SENIORITY!
E – WE WANT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE A  -  SENIORITY MASTER PICK - OF ALL WORKERS (those working and those NOT working)
BY SENIORITY!!     RUN BY THE CITY
F – We are going to City Hall next week – to see the Politicians ASAP with 500 members and present our 2,700 Petitions and demand THE SENIORITY MASTER PICK       NOW
Seniority rules For Everyone

WE ARE DETERMINED – WE ARE STRONG – WE ARE TOGETHER

COME TO THE MEETINGS THIS COMING SUNDAY
WITH YOUR ADDITIONAL 700 SIGNATURES
THIS SUNDAY – October 5, 2014 – In Manhattan  2 PM – 4 PM – at 164 St and Edgecomb at the PARK directly across the street from the school
In Brooklyn – the same day – October 5, 2014 – 4 PM – 6 PM at Life of Hope – 1886 Nostrand Ave
BRING EVERYONE – BRING MORE PETITIONS – THIS IS IT

E – WE WANT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE A  -  SENIORITY MASTER PICK - OF ALL WORKERS (those working and those NOT working)
BY SENIORITY!!     RUN BY THE CITY

A seniority master pick of those working and those not working??? I don't think I like this stipulation very much.

Rock Steady

Well, I hate to say it. To comment on his remark about leadership not defending its members.  The score for September is as follows.  Owen=2 , 1181=0. He's currently working on #3. He absolutely made each termination personal.  Sue should have gotten a pass with no kids on the bus, just the matron, hitting a fixed object, not another car.  Carol, he just had it in for her with comp cases. She did nothing to truly warrant termination. There are guys still on the job that have done worse.  He's not a good GM if he makes things personal, he's a tyrant.

I don't know what's right or wrong anymore on this job, However I do know something is going in the wrong direction and it is not for the good. When a Senior person is let go ( right or wrong,) is that person being replaced by a lower paying person if so, then I would have to say then, our union officials are sleeping on the job.If they are being replace with people on the master list with the same rate of pay then the union officials are doing there job. Does anyone know I would like to know the answer.

25 years transporting disabled children for New York City and my community, 25 years of blizzards, hurricanes , floods, 25 years of honest dedicated hard work , 25 years of getting up at 4:00 in the morning while the corrupt city officials, and the greedy dishonest bus company owners conspired to make professional dedicated school bus drivers a thing of the past and replace us with a transient part time unprofessional work force and with a wink and a nod from the New York City Mayors office and the corrupt local chapter of our great international union tossed me and thousands of our brothers and sisters to the curb without a thought about our welfare or the safety of the children we are entrusted with, so this is what I and you are left with now, I sit by watching god knows who driving my buses erratically down the street with YOUR CHILDREN aboard wondering why this has all happened and why I am not working anymore. Make no mistake about all this, it's all about the bus companies PROFIT being more important than the SAFETY of your children. This seniority list is phoney unless the city makes the contractors hire me and the 4000 of my union brothers and sisters from this so called master list and while we wait A.T.U. 1181 union officials sign up new members and scabs left over from our recent strike at bottom pay to take away OUR RIGHTFUL JOBS.  All I want to do is go to work for a living wage. WHERE IS RAY AND THE INTERNATIONAL WHEN WE NEED THEM !!!! Signed: Jonathan Israel 25 years atu 1181, the safest school bus drivers in the USA.

I don't know the particulars of Carol's or Sue's circumstances and I hate to see anyone get fired. The bottom line is do your job & do it right. I'm sure if either one of them didn't deserve to be terminated Ernie would have made sure they weren't.

I'm told the DOE has imposed a hiring freeze pending the master pick, and those people have not been replaced. (Which is why Owen and Bobby did runs yesterday.)
I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

driver

does anyone know what is going on with the epp????
why are alot of drivers retiring?????

PROUD MEMBER

I can't speak for retiring drivers with any certainty but I would have to assume they have just reached that point in their lives. I doubt if the EPP has anything to do with their decisions because if it did why wouldn't they just wait until a final decision was made on the EPP? As far as the EPP goes I have repeatedly asked (as recently as last week) and both my shop steward & one of our Union Reps both said things look good for a reinstatement of the EPP. They both sounded confident!!!
