NYS DOL BANNER
Dear Claimant,

We are writing to remind you that, under current Federal law and US DOL guidelines, this is the last benefit week for $600 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) payments in New York. That means when you submit your weekly certification between Sunday 7/26 and Saturday 8/1, you will be certifying for your final week of FPUC.

This may change if Congress takes action to extend Americans' unemployment benefits, and we will advise you of any changes.

In addition, we want to remind you about two recent benefit extensions:

Traditional Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits are now extended for up to 59 weeks: Traditional UI lasts for 26 weeks in New York, and has been extended by both the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) program, which adds 13 weeks, and the Extended Benefits (EB) program, which adds an additional 20 weeks.
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits are now extended for up to 46 weeks: Under Federal law, those receiving Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) are not eligible for PEUC or EB, but are now eligible for up to 46 weeks of benefits in New York – up from the original 39 weeks.
In order to continue receiving your UI or PUA benefits, you must continue to certify every week. There is no need to reapply or contact the NYS DOL, unless you are told to do so. New Yorkers can certify online at labor.ny.gov/signin or on the phone by calling 1-888-581-5812 (for UI) or 1-833-324-0366 (for PUA).

To learn more about extended benefits, visit our PEUC and EB FAQs.

Thank you,

NYS Department of Labor

That is a copy of the email everyone should be getting concerning their unemployment.

If I have read that letter correctly between the 13 week extension provided by The Cares Act and the 20 week extension provided by NY State itself a claim now lasts 59 weeks. I know everyone is jumping to open a new book but I truly think you just need to wait the week and try to certify they are telling us there are extensions we need to take advantage of them.

I don't think anyone here has done that so nobody can say as an example. My date ended I waited till
Sunday to claim and I did. Everyone is jumping to open a new claim because they are telling us to do that as well and it states it on the website

No mine ends the 16th I'm saying nobody here has done that, nobody here has waited to till the following Sunday to see if they can still certify, they are just opening up a new claim the day after their book ends

Guys I am not saying wether it's right or wrong I am just saying I think we are jumping the gun and opening a new book without giving the extensions a chance to kick in. I totally understand everyone's frustration and need for their unemployment money but I am just trying to help interpret the letter they sent us on July 24th. I guess I am lucky in the fact that my year end date isn't till next April but I truly am just trying to put I information out there. Sorry if it upset anyone Good Luck.

So after all that has been said my understanding is we need to open a new claim as always. Some have posted they have done that any I have also understood some have opened a new book the same way as always when your year ending date comes. My year ending date is 8/9/20.I just assume I open a new claim on Monday 8/10/20.Last day worked would be 4/20.Reason would be lack of work, not COVID.Return date would be 9/10. Does that sound right? Any advice appreciated , thanks!

Hammer2161

LMR, I don't believe you need to open a new book but if that's what you are most comfortable with the by all means do so. I think we are all eligible for the 33 week combined extension that is already in place. If it was me and I know it's not I would try to contact them sometime this week and ask for advice. They have made this very confusing but it does say right on the website that we are entitled to 13 weeks under The Cares Act and an addition 20 weeks through NY State.

That's the thing you ask and they tell you two different things. And it also states on the website if the year date has ended to open a new claim

WigWag, I know it says that but it has always said that. The truth is as we all know if you include the extensions your active claim is longer than a year. So it seems to be a contradiction. It appears to me that they are purposely misleading everyone because with everyday they don't pay out they earn interest on that money as it sits in the bank.  It's a sorry system that's in place and in the almost 5 months since this all started it doesn't seem anyone cares to fix it. Much like the DOE hasn't fixed a damn thing.

So the only way to find out is don't do anything the day your claim ends wait till Sunday and see if you can file...if not open a claim Monday

Wig Wag and Hammer thank for you input Seems we're all in the same  boat. It's a crapshoot,Do it online as usual or call in.I'm leaning more towards opening the new claim online as always.I'll let you all know how it goes.

I know it's a back forth issue BUT every piece of info helps. So I just got through to a specialist for unemployment....she said when your year benefit date ends, call up to file a new claim with someone and they will let you know if you have file a new claim or if you will be eligible to continue to claim off your old claim that just expired

Golfnut

I called and got thru ! When I told the operator that I opened a new book last Monday and I had no break in claim she put me thru to a supervisor. No supervisor picked up and automated voice said they would call me back and the wait time was 44-49 Minutes . This was at 9:45 this morning ! Guess what it's 9:07 p.m. and I'm still waiting ! What aggravation !!! Ugh ...

WigWag

I had an error in my claim date and called ...got thru and use the option to get call back when it's your turn ....DONT do that they never call you back just stay on the phone on hold. I was on hold for One Hour and talked to the supervisor and was told don't open a new book just keep on claiming for your week cause it was extended. Supervisor corrected the date cause when I went back to Unemployment page online it was corrected.I hope this helps people who books are ending soon.
