So, my benefit year ends tomorrow. I've heard of people opening new books with no problem to people just continuing to claim after their BYE, and all kinds of horror stories in between.

The DOL t weet below seems to contradict itself. But my question is this: If you don't open a new book, past weeks will count toward your normal 26 weeks after which extended benefits will kick in.

If you DO open a new book, your 26 weeks will start with that new claim and you will have a full 26 weeks of benefits to exhaust before you start using up your extended benefits. This would really only matter in the worst case scenario if we don't go back to work.

Also, referring to opening a new claim, the last sentence of the t weet, "The system will advise you if you are in this situation."  Will it? Really?

What to do ... what to do ...

(Note: I had to put a space between t and weet otherwise it does this tweet)

I am patient with stupidity, but not with those who are proud of it.

PROUD MEMBER

I would just open a book and see what it says.
Good Luck

The day after your claim ends I would just call and they will check to see if you're qualified or not. If not they will open a book for you. That's what I'm doing on the 17th and been told to do so

So Wig Wag my year ending date is tomorrow August 9th, and you're saying don't open a new claim on Monday August 10th just call by phone for a supervisor?

driver

What I did I opened a new book and called claim center next day and  I asked to be connected to level 3 and it was handled from there..

Yes that's what I've been told because the computer system
Is acting up so you'll have better luck calling someone the day after your claim ends. That's what multiple people told me from UI as well as a few members on the pioneer FB page. They called up the day after ended and had a supervisor/agent open it over the phone with them.
Mine ends the 16th so that's what I'm done on the 17th

Certify your last week and then call the next day to open book. Talk to a level 3 supervisor. If you try to open book online it's going to screw up your BYE and you have to call and talk to a level 3 supervisor anyway to straighten out the dates.

Ok, so, after claiming for this week this morning, along with the notice telling me my claim has been entered for processing, I got this message:

"Important Information
Your benefit year has ended. You may file a new claim for benefits tomorrow by returning to our website and selecting the option to file a claim."

So, I guess that's what I've got to do. Wish me luck ... LOL.

Plus there a waiting week now.

Where did you hear this? According to the UI website the waiting week is still waived.

My Benefit year ended 7/26 ! I opened up a new book on 7/27 . I Called and spoke to a Tier 3 person and had them extend my benefit year . I never got paid for last week ( The waiting week was supposed to be waived) so now today I went to claim my benefits and I got a note that said " You have exhausted all Unemployment benefits on your claim. We encourage you to use a One Stop Center to assist you in your Job search ! What a fiasco ! This is exhausting !! I guess I have to call again tomorrow to straighten this out . I hope it doesn't take 2 days to get through like last week !!
